Description

Amazon Leo is an initiative to launch a constellation of Low Earth Orbit satellites that will provide low-latency, high-speed broadband connectivity to unserved and underserved communities around the world.

Have you ever wanted to develop aerospace grade ground stations and related products for a high-performance satellite constellation? We are looking for a Ground Systems Engineer to participate in the technical definition, architecture, development, integration, test, qualification, production, and deployment of Leo ground systems with full lifecycle ownership. These systems include state of the art, physically remote, high reliability, aerospace grade full motion tracking antennas, modems, and innovative supporting systems that directly impact the end-to-end ground-space link performance.

Key job responsibilities

  • Define, develop, and provide Radio Frequency (RF) technical oversight for integrated ground station products and solutions for gateways and tracking, telemetry, and control systems, working with both internal teams and suppliers.

  • Develop solutions to demanding design problems enabling Amazon to fully realize aerospace grade, high reliability ground station Leo connectivity products.

  • Support conducting in-depth design reviews including preparing design review documentation and artifacts, and reviewing design materials.

  • Develop RF architecture, specifications, requirements, and designs and perform analyses, prepare documentation, and conduct presentations for parabolic LEO tracking TT&C and Gateway Terminal systems.

  • Possess Subject Matter Expertise in developing RF hardware equipment and modem products for integration into Ground Gateway and TT&C terminals.

  • Assist development of qualification, verification and validation plans and philosophies to ensure our physically remote products meet rigorous technical, functional, performance, reliability, and business requirements across teams and suppliers

  • Assist in the development of gateway monitoring and control systems and methodologies, including operational and fault management plans and on-site commissioning methodologies.

  • Support identification and analysis of operational faults and performance metrics and trends.

  • Perform root cause analysis and anomaly resolution on highly complex system issues.

Export Control Requirement:

Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

A day in the life

  • Minimum of 8 years of system engineering experience in development and delivery of satellite communications systems.

  • RF systems experience, preferably with ground tracking antennas and systems.

  • Experience in RF product design, and/or integration and test as related to antenna systems and their associated ancillary equipment.

  • In-depth understanding of satellite communications link budgets.

  • Experience supporting Systems Engineering of ground systems development efforts including meeting cost, schedule, and performance goals.

  • General computer hardware and software proficiency.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in development and operation of full motion ground gateways and/or TT&C systems.

  • Experience in writing and managing RF system and subsystem requirements, including definition and traceability.

  • Experience in defining and documenting RF hardware and software and interfaces, between systems and subsystems.

  • Experience working with external custom product suppliers

  • Experience with satellite modems and satellite ground system integration from RF to Network.
