Summary

Performs a variety of clerical and computer related activities and phlebotomy with minimal supervision. This individual interacts with patients of all ages and works effectively with others to meet the needs of the patients.*

Responsibilities

  • Perform phlebotomy procedures across all patient age groups, ensuring accurate identification, labeling, specimen integrity, and courteous patient interaction.

  • Process and prepare laboratory specimens, including verification, centrifugation, labeling, and routing, while providing timely and professional phone support.

  • Complete LIS/computer tasks, such as receiving specimens, monitoring pending logs, placing test orders, printing labels, and preparing reference lab send-outs.

  • Report and escalate issues, including safety hazards, discrepancies, system problems, and workplace incidents, while documenting concerns and offering solutions.

  • Maintain professional competency, completing required education, demonstrating proficiency in new procedures, participating in training, and pursuing ongoing skill development.

  • Follow hospital and laboratory policies, including safety protocols, attendance standards, confidentiality requirements, and maintaining a clean, organized work environment.

  • Demonstrate professionalism and respect, ensuring positive interactions with patients, families, staff, and departments while upholding confidentiality, dress code, and teamwork expectations.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned, supporting departmental efficiency and adapting to evolving operational needs.

Job Qualifications

*Education: High School diploma / GED or equivalent is required. *

*Experience: Prefer six months of phlebotomy experience, preferably in a hospital setting. *

*Previous computer experience is preferred. *

Effective interpersonal skills are also required.

Physical Effort: Medium to Heavy effort. May exert up to 35 lbs. force
