Training Technician (Canine)

Summary You will serve as a Training Technician at the National Detector Dog Training Center (NDDTC). You will work closely with the specialists in the field of training and education to ensure accomplishment of education and training programs for Plant Protection and Quarantine(PPQ), Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS), Department of Homeland Security(DHS) employees, and/or other stakeholders (i.e., federal, states department of agriculture). Responsibilities The duties described are for the full-performance level. At developmental grade levels, assignments will be of more limited scope, performed with less independence and limited complexity. The duties may include, but are not limited to: Procures potential canines from various sources (i.e., public and private shelters, rescue groups, breeders, vendors and private owners) - Newnan, GA only. Conducts an initial evaluation of canines to determine suitability for the PPQ detector dog program - Newnan, GA only. Serves as primary technical support provider with emphasis on learning management systems and authoring tools and their uses to enhance training delivery. Assists with the integration of technology into the training classroom. Assists training specialists with online course delivery. Prepares and finalizes all administrative documents in support of all agriculture detector dog training courses delivered by the NDDTC - Newnan, GA only. Collects, gathers, tabulates, and summarizes data collected from databases and/or applications for submission to management. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below. TIME-IN-GRADE: Current federal employees applying for a promotion opportunity must meet time-in-grade (TIG) requirement of 52 weeks of service at the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the position being filled. FOR THE GS-06 LEVEL: Applicants must have one year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 level) that may have been obtained in the private or public (local, county, state, Federal) sectors which demonstrates: Canine Position (Newnan, GA) Procuring potential canines from various sources (i.e., public and private shelters, rescue groups, breeders, vendors and private owners) Conducting initial evaluation of canines to determine suitability for specific training programs. Organizing logistics for training delivery, including classroom/environmental set up, class transportation, training supplies, and instructional materials General Training Technician (Glynco, GA) Knowledge of multimedia, telecommunications and software used for word processing, spreadsheets, and presentations. Formatting, proofreading, editing and finalizing written documentation, reports, instructional materials and training design documents Utilization of alternative, distance learning technologies and methodologies (i.e., web-based, CD/DVD, satellites, video-conferencing, etc.) used for webinar production and support of training, education, and/or career development programs Note: There is no education substitution for this grade level. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Education This position does not have an education qualification requirement. Travel, transportation, and relocation expenses may be paid in accordance with agency policy. Locality pay will vary based upon the selectee's duty location.
