Full job description
ABOUT BIG SLATE Big Slate Media is a Knoxville-based production company and agency. Founded in 2015, we help our partners create content that doesn’t suck. We believe great creativity happens when artistry, ingenuity, compassion, collaboration, positivity, and authenticity work together. This combination allows teams to create work that builds meaningful connections between brands and audiences. For us, it’s all about creating relationships and interactions that transcend the transaction. Over the years, we’ve evolved far beyond a traditional production company. Today, we partner with brands to develop campaigns, content ecosystems, and creative strategies that solve real business challenges. Our unique combination of agency services and production capabilities allows us to help clients think bigger, move faster, and create work that connects. Our team works with major brands like Fox Sports, HGTV, PetSafe, Regal Entertainment, Mike’s Hard Lemonade, Clayton Homes, Mountain Dew, Visit Knoxville, and many others. While the “big dawgs” are impressive, we’re equally proud to work with local and regional businesses, organizations, and communities looking to make an impact through connected content. As we continue to grow, we’re looking for a Post Producer to play an integral role in operations, standards and evolution of the ever-important post production process. THE GIST This is a role for someone who measures the quality of a piece by the audience’s reaction and ultimate alignment with the creative vision. They see how the edit, the grade, the sound mix separate work that’s technically correct from work that’s actually great (i.e content that doesn’t suck). We’re looking for someone with real editorial range. They should have a strong point of view on color, the ear to know what’s off in a sound bed, and the technical knowledge to know how to fix it. This person should also be someone who can manage a post pipeline across multiple active projects, coach an editor through a difficult cut, and still find something worth improving in the final pass. The Post Producer is the creative and operational anchor of Big Slate’s post-production team. This role oversees the pipeline, sets the finishing standard for our work, and actively develops the editors around them. You’ll work closely with producers, directors, creatives and editors to ensure great work gets finished the right way: on time, at the right quality, and to a standard that pushes us forward as a team. SO, WHAT’S THE GIG? This is a full-time position based in our offices in Knoxville, Tennessee. Here is the list of primary responsibilities for this role: POST-PRODUCTION EDITING Edit high-quality video content for commercial campaigns, social media ads, websites, presentations, internal communications, and outreach initiatives; Create and integrate motion graphics, title sequences, lower thirds, transitions, overlays, subtitles, and branded visual elements; Execute the creative vision of each project with full ownership and thoughtful collaboration taking direction from Creative Directors, Directors, and Clients throughout the process; Collaborate with internal and external editors, bringing your involvement to make each piece better regardless of who has cut the majority of it; Deliver strong work efficiently and hold a high standard at pace; Own the finishing stage on priority projects end-to-end, ensuring work that leaves BSM reflects the quality we’re capable of; POST-PRODUCTION SUPERVISION Serve as the post-production point of contact for producers navigating timelines, scope changes, and delivery requirements; Partner with producers to build realistic post schedules from brief to final deliverable; Own the post pipeline across active projects including milestones and editing tasks; Manage time and available resources effectively, scaling output to the scope of each project while protecting the creative vision; Flag risks and manage backlog with enough lead time to protect quality and avoid late-stage surprises; Source, brief, and manage freelance post-production contractors when project scope or capacity requires it, ensuring clear expectations, quality standards, and on-time delivery; CREATIVE DIRECTION SUPPORT Collaborate with our Creative Directors, Directors, and DPs to develop and support creative judgement with a strong eye for quality, storytelling, and the details that distinguish good work from great work; Develop and establish color grading themes, leveraging your own creative taste and expertise to define the distinct visual look for individual projects and Big Slate as a whole; Support our Development team in the proposal phase of a project, advising on editorial directions, stylistic treatments, resource allocations and creative execution strategies tailored to the brief; EDITOR COACHING AND DEVELOPMENT Work alongside current editors to raise the team’s technical and creative floor; Run shared reviews, iterative critique sessions, and hands-on feedback that transfers knowledge and builds skill in a supportive feedback loop; Build institutional taste across the team, helping each editor understand not just what to improve but why; Lead consistent training sessions for all post-production team members, keeping the team current on tools, technology, techniques, and evolving best practices; Set a clear vision for where BSM’s post-production capabilities are headed, identifying the resources, tools, and skills the team needs to get there; Stay current on emerging technologies and AI-driven workflows, actively evaluating where they can strengthen the team’s output and efficiency and aligning on responsible and principled use of AI; WORKFLOW AND PROCESS DEVELOPMENT Maintain and optimize BSM’s post-production SOPs, including pass-off standards, naming conventions, review stages, and finishing checklists; Iterate on process as the team, tools, and project mix evolve; Build systems that scale with the team and give everyone the tools to execute at a higher level; ON-SET SUPPORT Be available for on-set support as either an active production role or post-supervisor when production demands it;
