Job Summary

The Communications Intern helps with the creative development and refinement of new and existing communication channels; internal creative services, company meeting and employee event planning, and general communication responsibilities. This position will include writing, editing, design and layout management, research, and measurement of employee-facing and key stakeholder communication.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  1. Demonstrate the Vermeer characteristics of caring culture, demonstrating agility, customer focused, and stewardship, and model the associated behaviors.

  2. Help with the creation and development of quality communication messages that incorporate graphics, photography, audio visual, and web design artwork that helps advance the organization’s communication goals. Coordinate with Vermeer Creative Services to execute creative work when work cannot be executed within the communication department.

  3. Work collaboratively with business segments and support functions. Support an ongoing cadence of communication with employees to support an engaged workforce.

  4. Plan, develop, and edit communication (oral, written, visual) for organization initiatives to enhance stakeholder knowledge of the brand, products, business priorities, operating environment, while also enhancing the employee experience. Identify story ideas and collect information through internal and external sources to obtain editorial material for use in organization’s communication mediums.

  5. Maintain communication graphics, photograph, and audio visual files.

Education and/or Experience

  • High School diploma required.

  • Current student pursing a Bachelors’ degree in Public Relations, Journalism, Communications or Marketing.

  • Previous internship is a plus.

Other Skills and Abilities

  • Strong writing skills.

  • Ability to work well both independently and in a team setting.

  • Basic computer skills, but knowledge or willingness to work with design software is helpful.

  • Flexibility and ability to balance multiple tasks.

Work Location

ONSITE: A team member’s day-to-day work is best done on a Vermeer campus. If work content can be occasionally completed at an offsite location, discuss potential arrangements with your manager.
