Design Engineer

Location: Louisville, Kentucky (Onsite)

Role Overview

We are seeking a Lead Wiring Harness Design Engineer. This role involves the design, development, and release of complete high-voltage and low-voltage wiring harness systems. The position requires collaboration with cross-functional engineering and operations teams within a Lean product development process.

Key Responsibilities

Design, develop, and release complete high-voltage and low-voltage wiring harness systems, including wire/cable sizing, connector selection, and manufacturing considerations.

Create and maintain logical wiring diagrams, 2D harness manufacturing drawings, and bills of materials (BOMs).

Drive the CAD team on 3D harness routing, packaging, clearance optimization, and thermal/vibration strain relief.

Build or support prototype harness builds to validate feasibility, manufacturability, and assembly methods.

Coordinate harness fabrication with external suppliers, including quality plans and first-piece qualification.

Ensure compliance with UL requirements for harnesses, connectors, and related components.

Drive connector and harness standardization across product lines.

Own Failure Reporting, Analysis, and Corrective Action System (FRACAS) investigations for wiring harness failures.

Apply Six Sigma and reliability engineering methods to validate designs and implement solutions.

Partner with Controls/EE teams to support product-level EMI/EMC testing and issue resolution.

Required Qualifications

Education: B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field.

Experience: A minimum of 7 years of engineering design experience on high-volume manufactured products is required. This includes 5 years of dedicated experience designing wiring harnesses, covering connector/terminal selection, wire insulation/derating calculations, and supplier qualification. Experience leading DFMEAs and project planning is also required.

Technical Skills: 5 years of experience using Creo Schematic or a similar electrical CAD tool for wiring harness design is necessary. Project experience meeting regulatory requirements such as UL, FCC, or CE is also a requirement.
