This is a highly responsible position in the Justice and Public Safety Cabinet. The employee is expected to perform all duties to the best of their ability, act in a responsible manner at all times, demonstrate leadership qualities, and treat all staff, youth, and persons with respect. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

Performs duties related to the maintenance and operations of equipment in a Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) facility.

Installs, repairs and maintains air conditioning, heating, refrigeration, ventilation, electrical systems and other associated equipment.

Repairs and maintains electrical, plumbing and sewerage operations.

Keeps basic records of work activities and provides technical assistance.

Inspects and checks for the working performance of equipment according to specifications.

Performs checks and tests on mechanical equipment.
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION:NONE
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS:Two years of experience in the maintenance or repair of HVAC, refrigeration, ventilation, or electrical systems.
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE:Formal training in one of the above or related fields will substitute for the experience on a year-for-year basis.
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION:NONE
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.):Must be 18 years of age.
Working Conditions
May be required to take care of emergency repairs twenty-four hours a day.
Probationary Period
This job has an initial and promotional probationary period of 6 months, except as provided in KRS 18A.111.
