Job Title: Clinical Research NurseJob Description

The Clinical Research Nurse provides direct patient care and coordinates clinical research activities, combining bedside nursing with study coordination and data management. This role focuses on recruiting and enrolling study participants, ensuring consistent study implementation, maintaining accurate and secure data, and upholding full compliance with regulatory requirements and reporting standards. The nurse educates patients about research studies, obtains informed consent, and supports participants throughout their involvement in oncology clinical trials.

Responsibilities

  • Collect and accurately document clinical information and research data from study participants in accordance with study protocols.

  • Provide clear and compassionate patient education about research studies, including procedures, potential risks, benefits, and participant expectations.

  • Obtain informed consent from prospective participants and support their enrollment into clinical trials, ensuring adherence to ethical and regulatory standards.

  • Coordinate patient recruitment activities for oncology clinical trials, identifying eligible participants and facilitating screening and enrollment processes.

  • Perform basic nursing skills and deliver patient-facing clinical care as required by early-phase oncology research protocols.

  • Manage day-to-day study coordination tasks, including scheduling participant visits, preparing study materials, and ensuring protocol adherence.

  • Maintain high-quality data management practices, including timely data entry into electronic data capture (EDC) systems and ongoing data verification for accuracy and completeness.

  • Conduct chart reviews and extract relevant clinical information from patient records to support eligibility assessments and data collection.

  • Ensure data integrity by following Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines and institutional policies for documentation, storage, and reporting.

  • Interact with consortium members and participating institutions, fostering effective communication and collaboration across research sites.

  • Organize and schedule meetings with consortium and study team members, track and record study progress, and distribute meeting notes and related documentation.

  • Monitor study implementation to ensure consistency with approved protocols and regulatory requirements, escalating issues when necessary.

  • Support compliance with all applicable regulatory requirements, including IRB policies, institutional guidelines, and sponsor expectations.

  • Contribute to the management and coordination of high-profile oncology drug trials within an early phase research setting.

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams of oncology researchers, physicians, and clinical staff to optimize patient care and research outcomes.

  • Assist with aspects of study management and oversight, drawing on prior management experience when applicable.

  • Maintain organized and up-to-date patient records and study files to support audits, monitoring visits, and internal quality reviews.

Essential Skills

  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Pennsylvania.

  • Nursing Diploma or Associate's Degree in Nursing; Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional experience as a nurse.

  • At least 1 year of RN clinical experience in a patient care setting.

  • At least 1 year of clinical research experience, ideally within oncology.

  • 2 or more years of oncology experience, with familiarity in oncology patient care and cancer treatment pathways.

  • Proficiency in collecting, documenting, and managing clinical data from study participants.

  • Experience with patient recruitment and enrollment into clinical trials.

  • Demonstrated ability to obtain informed consent and communicate complex study information clearly to patients and families.

  • Working knowledge of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) guidelines and clinical research regulations.

  • Ability to perform thorough chart reviews and extract relevant clinical information from patient records.

  • Competence in data entry and data management within clinical research, including use of electronic data capture (EDC) systems.

  • Strong organizational skills for tracking study progress, scheduling visits and meetings, and maintaining accurate records.

  • Effective communication skills for interacting with consortium members, participating institutions, and multidisciplinary clinical teams.

  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment that combines patient-facing responsibilities with detailed data management tasks.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) degree is preferred and valued for this role.

  • Previous management or supervisory experience in a clinical or research setting is preferred.

  • Experience working on high-profile oncology studies sponsored by large, well-known organizations.

  • Familiarity with early phase oncology research, including first-in-human and dose-escalation studies.

  • Comfort working within large academic research environments and collaborating with diverse teams of oncology researchers and physicians.

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining data integrity and regulatory compliance.

  • Ability to balance clinical care responsibilities with complex research and documentation requirements.

  • Interest in professional growth and upward mobility within oncology research and nursing.

  • Motivation to contribute to cutting-edge cancer research and improve outcomes for patients diagnosed with cancer.

Job Type & Location

This is a Contract to Hire position based out of Philadelphia, PA.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $40.00 - $45.00/hr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
