Full job description
At Department of Public Safety – Office of Management and Finance (DPS-OMF) our mission is to provide effective management and support services in an efficient and professional manner to all agencies within the Department of Public Safety - Public Safety Services and to public and private entities. We’re looking for an Accountant 1/2/3/4 within the Financial Services section at DPS-OMF. Three years of experience in accounting, auditing, financial operations, payroll, or banking; OR
Six years of full-time experience in any field plus twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR
A bachelor’s degree with twenty-four semester hours in accounting; OR
A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, or statistics; OR
An advanced degree in accounting, finance, business administration, management, economics, quantitative methods, or statistics; OR
Possession of a Certified Public Accountant (CPA) license.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as one year of experience towards the six years of full-time work experience in any field. The maximum substitution allowed is 120 semester hours which substitutes for a maximum of four years of experience in any field. - Assigns, reviews, analyzes and maintains general and subsidiary ledgers of programmatic budgeted expenditures and revenues for one or more DPS/PSS agencies which includes monthly, quarterly and annual reconciliations.
- Provides direction and assurances that revenue transactions have been properly classified; maintains cash management ledgers of funds drawn and received in order to alert management regarding any under-collecting of budgeted funds; prepares journal vouchers to reclassify revenues as necessary; maintains accounts receivables ledgers; Prepares monthly reconciliations of Agency Program, special fund and credit card reconciliations
- Primarily responsible for the preparation, review, analyzation and approval of complex monthly, quarterly and annual fiscal reports including the Annual Financial Reports.
- Consults and recommends solutions to problem areas and issues and supports management in order to facilitate resolution while making recommendations.
- Prepare reports and compiling data needed to control expenditures, accounts receivables and revenues.
