Full job description

This recruitment is only open to current San Bernardino County, San Bernardino County Fire Protection District, or Special Districts employees who hold a regular, contract, extra-help, recurrent, Public Service Employee (PSE), Work Experience Program (WEX) or intern position. Former PSE, WEX, or interns are eligible to apply up to 6 months from the end of their assignment.

The Transitional Assistance Department (TAD) is recruiting for Eligibility Workers III who, in a lead worker capacity, act as a resource for other eligibility workers in their assigned work units, identify training needs, and provide mentoring for Eligibility Worker I to assist them in learning their job functions and case management. Eligibility Workers III may also perform a review of various reports, cases and actions, including analyzing error trends and developing corrective action plans, to ensure accurate and timely case completion.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Travel: Travel throughout the County may be required and employees will be required to make provisions for such transportation.

  • Pre-Employment Process: Applicants must successfully pass the pre-employment process, which may include verification of employment history and education, fingerprinting, credit check, drug screening, and/or medical exam, prior to appointment.

  • Sponsorship: San Bernardino County is not able to consider candidates who will require visa sponsorship at the time of application or in the future.

Experience: Eighteen (18) months of experience in a California Department of Social Services performing duties equivalent to an Eligibility Worker II (EW II) in San Bernardino County determining initial and continuing eligibility for a variety or public assistance programs such as CalWORKs, Medi-Cal, CalFresh, and General Relief. Candidates MUST have been employed in this capacity within the last twelve (12) months.

Eligibility Worker Trainee and Eligibility Worker I experience is not considered qualifying and MUST be listed separately on the application from time employed as a journey-level Eligibility Worker (EW II). Bilingual skills are highly desirable. Positions assigned to bilingual caseloads may be eligible to receive additional compensation for verbal and written translation skills. Bilingual test will be required.

Spanish Bilingual Exam: Bilingual positions require that applicants pass written and oral language competency tests in order to be considered for bilingual vacancies. Approximately one (1) week prior to the test date, eligible candidates will be notified of the Spanish Bilingual Exam time and location. Applicants scheduled for an examination must show photo identification or equivalent.
