BJC’s patients have access to the latest advances in medical science and technology through a formal affiliation between Barnes-Jewish Hospital and St. Louis Children’s Hospital with the renowned Washington University School of Medicine, which consistently ranks among the top medical schools in the country.

Treasury has overall responsibility for all system funds and securities under the general guidance of the Assistant Treasurer and the Finance Committee of the System Board. This group oversees the day to day cash management, including establishment and maintenance of proper controls over daily cash transactions of BJC HealthCare and the cashiering functions at BJC entities within the Washington University Medical Center. The group is responsible for managing activities and providing technical assistance to the Assistant Treasurer and CFO related to bond issues and other long term debt obligations of the system.

Preferred Qualifications

Role Purpose

The Investment Research and Risk Manager exists to oversee and execute processes supporting BJC's institutional investment program. The Manager is broadly responsible for delivering a fiduciary standard of care to BJC's investment stakeholders, and for positively influencing the quality and quantity of decisions made by the program's Investment Committee. The Manager role is dynamic and flexible, is expected to independently contribute with limited supervisory oversight or guidance, and demands traits of leadership and ownership.

Responsibilities

  • Existing Manager Diligence: monitor and manage relationships with BJC's existing asset managers; analyze and document trends in asset manager performance, strategy, and organizational structure; formulate recommendations for change; clearly and concisely communicate material insights and advocate for recommendations to the broader team.

  • Prospective Manager Diligence: evaluate, diligence, structure, and negotiate prospective investment opportunities in competition with existing investments; formulate hire/fire recommendations; clearly and concisely communicate material insights and advocate for recommendations to the broader team; shepherd the investment closing process including confirmatory diligence, legal review and document negotiation, and document execution.

  • Data Analysis and Reporting: Oversee the development, maintenance, and execution of new and existing analytic processes, tools, and vendors related to stakeholder reporting and disclosure, IPS management, portfolio management, investment returns, capital markets, and investment cash flows.

  • Portfolio Management: Create recommendations for portfolio rebalancings; ensure compliance with policy guidelines; manage derivative rolls and factor exposure management; manage hedge fund subscription/redemption timing; evaluate illiquid commitment pacing.

  • Risk Management and Asset Allocation: Oversee the development, maintenance, and execution of new and existing processes, tools, and vendors related to risk management and asset allocation, including Monte Carlo analysis, capital markets assumptions, asset/liability management, and optimization; formulate recommendations for changes in strategic or tactical asset allocation.
