Location : Philadelphia, PA | Hybrid, 3 days per week in the office
Position Summary:
Are you ready to lead a global engineering organization building the open platform that powers digital twin experiences for the built and natural environment? Bentley Systems is seeking a Head of Platform Engineering, reporting directly to the Chief Platform Officer, to lead the engineering execution of our unified platform spanning geospatial, reality data, and digital twin technologies. This role sits at the intersection of open-source innovation, cloud services, and infrastructure engineering, supporting a rapidly growing ecosystem that includes millions of developers and users worldwide. Success in this role means building a high-performing global engineering organization, fostering an open and collaborative culture, and delivering platform capabilities that accelerate adoption, business growth, and ecosystem success.
Responsibilities:

Lead a global engineering organization of 120+ colleagues across the United States, Canada, Lithuania, India, and France.

Drive engineering outcomes aligned with strategic business objectives and market opportunities.

Establish and champion a business-focused engineering culture rooted in accountability, collaboration, innovation, and execution.

Facilitate the adoption, documentation, and continuous improvement of modern software engineering best practices.

Foster a culture of openness, transparency, and collaboration across engineering teams and the open-source communities we serve.
-
Build systems and processes that enable teams to continuously deliver high-quality software and platform capabilities.
-
Collaborate closely with Product Management and cross-functional stakeholders to execute the product roadmap.

Recruit, onboard, coach, develop, and manage the performance of engineering leaders and individual contributors.
-
Support organizational growth by developing leaders, strengthening team capabilities, and creating an environment where teams can do their best work.
-
Contribute to investment decisions and organizational planning aligned with business strategy and market demand.
-
Lead global engineering leaders and teams in a people leadership role.
-
Work full-time, 40 hours per week, following a hybrid model that requires attendance in the Philadelphia office three days per week.

Travel approximately 25% globally for purpose-based engagements at Bentley office locations, customer sites, partner engagements, and industry events.

Requires sitting or standing at will while performing work on a computer.
Qualifications:
-
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or relevant training and/or experience.
-
15+ years of software development experience, including significant and sustained experience leading global engineering organizations at scale to enduring business success.
-
Proven leadership experience developing successful APIs, libraries, platforms, or specifications for software developers.
-
Demonstrated success building and scaling high-performing engineering teams and leaders across multiple regions.
-
Experience establishing engineering systems and processes that support continuous, high-quality software delivery and transparent stakeholder engagement.
-
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to engage technical and non-technical audiences, from individual contributors to executives.
-
Strong emotional intelligence, transparency, and an ability to build trust and operate without politics.
-
Demonstrated business acumen with the ability to align engineering investments with market opportunities and business objectives.
-
Ability to create space for teams to do their best work, champion culture, and run effective systems and processes.
-
Engineering background with the ability to go deep with teams and individuals as needed, while operating primarily as an organizational and people leader.

Knowledge of TypeScript, JavaScript, C++, SQL, MCP, AWS, or Azure preferred.
-
Leadership experience at a late-stage venture-backed technology company or large technology company preferred.
-
Post-merger integration experience preferred.
-
Knowledge of geospatial, AECO, infrastructure, defense, intelligence, or computer graphics industries preferred.
This is a Hybrid role.
