Job Description
Insight Global is seeking a Principal R&D Engineer - SRM Ballistician to join a growing Solid Rocket Motor Engineering team. This individual will be responsible for generating rocket motor concepts from high-level thrust and burn time requirements and refining those concepts into detailed grain and nozzle designs. The role requires close collaboration with design engineers, analysts, chemists, and manufacturing teams to optimize grain geometries, burn rates, thrust curves, and pressure profiles while ensuring designs are producible and meet performance objectives.
Skills and Requirements
10+ years of direct, hands-on experience in solid rocket motors (SRMs) and ballistics.
Deep expertise in internal ballistics, propellant grain design and analysis, burn rate characterization, propulsion systems, and SRM development.
Proven track record supporting R&D, testing, modeling, and development of solid rocket motor systems.
Engineering degree in Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, or a related discipline. engineering fields.
Open to 25% travel
REMOTE but must sit out of any of these states: Pennsylvania, Florida, Arkansas, Tennessee, Alabama, North Carolina, Alabama, California, Vermont, Ohio, and Nebraska. (The list of states from which we can hire is dynamic and may change based on business/compliance requirements) Strong understanding of technical documentation and engineering analysis methods.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
Ability to work independently and solve highly complex technical problems.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
