Organization: SMCS-Sutter Med Center - Sacramento Position Overview:

Organizes, coordinates, and assists with the day-to-day activities of the infusion pharmacy department in areas of staff supervision, maintenance of clinical programs, effective intra- and inter-departmental communication, workload assignment and proper allocation of pharmacy resources. Serves as the liaison between the department and staff, physicians, patients, family and other medical staff. Delivers pharmaceutical care through the provision of patient-centered clinical service, medication information, education, medication preparation and distribution that ensures safe, effective, and cost-efficient medication therapy. Responsible for ensuring safety in the compounding and dispensing chemotherapy, biotherapy, and other infusion drugs. Provide direct patient care, patient education, and actively participating in clinical decision making. Participate in committees to improve safety, efficacy, and quality of patient care. Develop policies and implement programs to ensure safety of staff and patients during the preparation, administration, and monitoring of chemotherapy. Adheres to all local/state/federal regulations, codes, policies and procedures to ensure privacy and safety while delivering optimal patient care. Meets ASHP requirements to precept pharmacy residents in an accredited residency program and has advanced training in one of the core Board Certification Pharmacy Specialties (e.g. Ambulatory Care, Compounded Sterile Preparations, Oncology, Pharmacotherapy, or other equivalent), or Advanced Certification with ongoing relevant CE and certification maintenance. Acts as designated advocate for system project participation. Job Description: EDUCATION:

• Doctor of Pharmacy degree from an accredited Pharmacy school or Postgraduate training/education

OR

• Bachelor’s degree with advanced clinical training experience or equivalent education/experience

OR

• Master's degree with advanced clinical training experience or equivalent education/experience

CERTIFICATION & LICENSURE:

• PharmD - Pharmacist - California State Board of Pharmacy

OR

• RPH-Registered Pharmacist

AND

• PSC - Pharmacotherapy Specialty Certification - Board of Pharmacy Specialties

OR

• Other Advanced Certification to be verified by the hiring manager

TYPICAL EXPERIENCE:

• 5 years Infusion experience highly preferred

SKILLS AND KNOWLEDGE:

• Knowledge of medical terminology, generic and trade pharmaceutical names, pharmaceutical calculations and laws and regulations.
• Comprehensive knowledge of current pharmacological/biopharmaceutical principles, pharmacotherapy, medical terminology, pathologies, disease states, and related information for a medical management plan.
• Knowledge of acute and chronic disease and its effects on patients and caregivers.
• Able to use professional judgment and clinical expertise in the daily solving of complex problems and in the provision of clinical information within the scope of practice.
• Knowledge and understanding of different Pharmacy practice settings, including controlled substance delivery and procedures. Knowledge and understanding of different Pharmacy practice settings, including controlled substance delivery and procedures.
• Comprehensive knowledge of current pharmacological/biopharmaceutical principles, pharmacotherapy, medical terminology, pathologies, disease states, and related information for a medical management plan.
• Carry out calculations and execute basic math skills needed for common dosage determination.
• Ability to adapt to changes in the work environment or work processes in a timely, positive and effective manner.
• General knowledge of computer applications, such as Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, and Outlook), related pharmaceutical technology, EHR, and EPIC.
• Ability to perform basic inventory management duties

• Requires a basic working knowledge of legal requirements and accreditation standards including National Association of Boards of Pharmacy (NABP), The Joint Commission (TJC), Title XXII, United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA), Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and United States Pharmacopeia (USP).

Pay Range is $91.28 to $127.78 / hour The compensation range may vary based on the geographic location where the position is filled. Total compensation considers multiple factors, including, but not limited to a candidate’s experience, education, skills, licensure, certifications, departmental equity, training, and organizational needs. Base pay is only one component of Sutter Health’s comprehensive total rewards program. Eligible positions also include a comprehensive benefits package.
