Full job description

Job Duties

At Ballast Advisors, we have one employer: our clients. As a fiduciary firm, we provide objective advice built on loyalty, honesty, and long-term relationships. Like ballast on a ship, we help clients stay steady through calm and storm, and we bring that same steadiness to how we support our team.

We're looking for a Wealth Advisor who enjoys building relationships and helping people feel confident about their financial lives. You'll serve a group of small and mid-sized client relationships directly and partner with a senior Wealth Advisor on larger, more complex households. You'll work alongside a collaborative client service team, and we'll help you get up to speed on our tools and systems so you can focus on what you do best: caring for clients.

  • Serve as a trusted point of contact for your clients, answering questions, addressing portfolio inquiries, and facilitating trades and money movements

  • Partner with our client service team to deliver thoughtful, seamless support

  • Provide backup support for clients of the senior Wealth Advisor

  • Help keep client paperwork in good order, including contracts, account openings, and document reviews

  • Prepare and present financial plans, written recommendations, and strategies

  • Manage portfolios, including trade implementation and rebalancing aligned with each client's risk tolerance and goals

  • Support the firm's investment and compliance committees with portfolio reviews and research

  • Help strengthen how we use our planning and investment platforms, and share what you learn with teammates

  • Mentor Financial Planners and Client Service Managers, and over time, contribute to our advisor training program

  • Stay current on markets, regulatory changes, and emerging fraud and cybersecurity risks

Minimum Education Required

  • Bachelor's degree

  • Series 65 (or 66) and/or CFP®, with eligibility for IAR registration

Minimum Experience Required

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in financial planning, investment management, or a related role

  • Experience managing or closely supporting a book of client relationships

  • Strong communication skills and a genuine client-first mindset

  • Solid understanding of the financial planning process and comfort with Microsoft Office
