FUNCTION & SCOPE:

Lead intern-level analytical and governance projects with substantial autonomy, supporting the Research Foundation's data strategy program. Engage in dashboard design and build, governance program coordination, and contribution to national working group deliverables (NSF REACH). Suitable for graduate students in data analytics, public administration, research administration, information science, or related fields seeking applied experience in enterprise data leadership.

DUTIES:

Analytics & Dashboard Development:

• Collaborate on the design and build Power BI dashboard under the Director's supervision.

• Develop semantic models, data quality validations, and refresh logic for certified content.

• Conduct analytical projects with end-to-end ownership (scoping, data acquisition, analysis, visualization, presentation).

• Support requirements gathering and documentation stakeholders.

Governance Program Coordination:

• Coordinate Data Stewardship Council activities (meeting prep, agenda, minutes, action tracking).

• Lead specific CDE inventory and glossary development projects within priority domains.

• Support development of Departmental Power BI Author / Steward training program.

• Maintain governance documentation, issue register, and lineage artifacts.

National & External Engagement:

• Contribute to NSF REACH Working Group deliverables (research; comparative analysis; written contributions).

• Support external presentation preparation (HEDW, NCURA, DGIQ, Research Analytics Summit).

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

• Leadership experience in enterprise data strategy at a complex public research system.

• Direct contribution to deliverables consumed by SUNY System Administration, the Chancellor's Office, and the Board.

• National-level exposure through NSF REACH and external presentation opportunities.

• Career-relevant experience for roles in data strategy, research administration, public sector analytics, and consulting.

Compensation for this role is: $22/hour.

Job Requirements:

Required qualifications:

• Currently enrolled graduate student; preferred fields include data analytics, business analytics, public administration, research administration, information science, statistics, MPP, MPA, MBA.

• Demonstrated analytical capability; quantitative and qualitative methods.

• Proficiency with Power BI or comparable BI tool (i.e. Tableau); SQL; Power Query; Excel.

• Strong written communication; experience producing professional reports and presentations.

• Self-directed; able to scope and execute projects with limited supervision.

• Discretion handling sensitive financial, personnel, and research data.

Preferred qualifications:

• Prior internship, research assistant, or professional experience in higher education, research administration, or public sector data.

• Experience with Microsoft Fabric, Azure data services, or modern data stack tools.

• Familiarity with research funding (NSF HERD, federal sponsor structures); IPEDS / NACUBO.

• Python or R for statistical analysis.

• Coursework or interest in data science. data analytics, data governance, data ethics, or data management (DAMA / DMBOK).
