Description

Milton Hershey School (MHS) is one of the world’s best pre-K through 12th grade private schools, where approximately 2,200 students from disadvantaged backgrounds are provided with a cost-free home and a top-notch education. Thanks to the generosity of Milton and Catherine Hershey in 1909, the school is fully endowed today, with the resources to ensure students can thrive. The school has prepared over 12,000 graduates to lead fulfilling and productive lives and is expanding to serve more students.

MHS provides enrolled students an amazing multitude of athletic opportunities, with access to state-of-the-art facilities and programs led by committed coaching staffs. MHS offers Varsity, JV, Junior High, and Recreational teams for 15 sports and intramural programs. Athletic programs begin in Elementary and Middle Division and culminate to the Senior Division Varsity level. Our program has produced many successful seasons ending with Mid Penn Conference, PIAA District III, and PIAA State Championships. Many athletes also advance to play at the college level after graduation from MHS.

MHS is seeking a Middle School Girls’ Volleyball Head Coach for a one-year ancillary position. The Head Coach is responsible for leading the program year-round to develop students athletically and competitively, as well as instilling character so they excel in their sport and in life. The season begins in March and ends in May. Practice is generally Monday-Friday 3:15 pm-5:30 pm or 4:00 pm- 6:00 pm with two or three matches per week starting at 4:00 pm. There are some Saturday Tournaments during the season. Off-season work is flexible and necessary for this position. Stipend amount based on experience & working the entire season: $4,409 - $5,731/season.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Planning and overseeing all aspects of the team.

  • Ensuring the team is competitive and character-building.

  • Recruiting students to participate and collaborate with the elementary and middle divisions to develop talent pipelines

  • Establishing year-round strategies and processes to train & invest in skill development.

  • Creating skill enrichment programs and opportunities.

  • Leading all practice sessions and coaching at all games and events.

  • Providing exceptional personal coaching and leadership of the players.

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • Experience playing volleyball. Competing at the college level is a plus.

  • At least 3 years of successful coaching experience with demonstrated success in establishing a highly competitive program, while also instilling high-quality character.

  • Must have current knowledge of techniques, rules and regulations, and training theory of the sport.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead & inspire diverse youth. Experience working with lower income students preferred.

  • Demonstrated exceptional organizational and planning skills.

  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and lead a team of coaches.

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate & influence in cross-functional settings.

  • Ability to build a network to facilitate new and creative opportunities.

  • Candidates must be eager to build the program & invest in student talent development year-round.

  • Candidates must demonstrate high degree of integrity as all MHS staff are role models for students.
