Master Electrician / Residential Electrical Project Manager
Guy Smith Home Services | Norfolk, VA
Lead Residential Electrical Projects from Start to Finish
Guy Smith Home Services is looking for an experienced Master Electrician / Residential Electrical Project Manager to take ownership of complex residential electrical work, support the development of the electrical team, and help ensure projects are completed safely, professionally, and to code.
This is a hands-on leadership role for a licensed Master Electrician who is comfortable managing projects from planning through completion while still staying active in the field. You’ll oversee larger residential electrical projects, coordinate permitting and utility requirements, mentor electricians and apprentices, and serve as a technical resource when jobs become more complex.
The right person will be equally comfortable reviewing plans, working with customers, coordinating with Dominion Energy and local permitting authorities, and stepping into the field to make sure the work is done correctly.
If you take pride in quality workmanship, enjoy developing others, and want more ownership over the electrical work you lead, this could be the right next step.
What You’ll Do
-
Lead residential electrical projects from initial assessment through final completion.
-
Diagnose, troubleshoot, repair, and upgrade residential electrical systems.
-
Plan and oversee panel replacements, service upgrades, meter-base upgrades, dedicated circuits, rewiring, and other major electrical projects.
-
Install and oversee whole-home generators, transfer switches, surge protection, EV chargers, lighting systems, and related residential equipment.
-
Read and interpret blueprints, electrical plans, specifications, and job scopes.
-
Coordinate permitting, inspections, and utility requirements for electrical projects.
-
Communicate directly with Dominion Energy and utility designers when service upgrades or utility coordination are required.
-
Complete and manage permit documentation and ensure projects meet applicable code requirements.
-
Trace, identify, and properly label residential circuits and electrical panels.
-
Install and troubleshoot panels, transformers, occupancy sensors, three-way and four-way switching, disconnects, and related electrical devices.
-
Oversee project scheduling, materials, equipment, labor needs, and job readiness.
-
Perform quality checks and ensure completed work meets company standards and the National Electrical Code.
-
Serve as a technical escalation point for electricians and apprentices.
-
Mentor and train electricians and apprentices through hands-on coaching and field instruction.
-
Help team members develop their technical skills based on how they learn best.
-
Explain electrical issues, project requirements, and repair or replacement recommendations clearly to homeowners.
-
Coordinate with dispatch, customer service, operations, inspectors, utilities, and other field teams.
-
Maintain accurate project notes, estimates, photos, permits, and required documentation.
-
Protect customers’ homes and maintain clean, professional jobsites.
-
Maintain assigned vehicles, tools, materials, and equipment.

What Success Looks Like

You’ll be someone the team can rely on for technical direction, project leadership, and field support. You’ll help electricians and apprentices grow, communicate effectively with customers and utility partners, and ensure that complex residential electrical work is completed correctly from the first step through final inspection.
Most importantly, you’ll help Guy Smith Home Services continue building a strong electrical operation by setting the standard for craftsmanship, professionalism, and leadership.
