About the Position: The primary purpose of this position is to serve as a clinical nurse performing a variety of professional nursing and health services to patients of all ages who present for treatment of illness or injuries at a military treatment facility (MTF). Provides direct care for patients with various types of illness or trauma requiring emergency attention. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation

Duties

• Provides Emergency Department (ED) clinical nursing care to patients of any age group.
• Assess incoming patients and prioritize patient care based on need, available staffing, and patient acuity.
• Provides comprehensive nursing care to patients presenting for urgent or emergent care using knowledge of professional nursing theories, principles, and procedures.
• Performs various pulmonary ventilation functions; operates and monitors highly complex technical equipment and documents appropriately in the health record.
• Teaches, on-boards, and mentors professional and paraprofessional nursing staff, assisting with complex nursing and diagnostic procedures.
• Teaches patients and significant others how to manage their illness/injury, by explaining: subsequent inpatient plan, post-treatment home care needs, diet/nutrition/exercise programs, self-administration of medication and rehabilitation.
• Provide orientation and on-the-job training for personnel.

If a determination is not able to be made about the length of your creditable experience for qualification requirements, you will be removed from consideration.1 Basic Requirement for Degree: A graduate or higher-level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.). Licensure: A current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States; and you must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. Exemption: You are exempt from the basic requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0610 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017, or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below Professional Nursing Experience: One or more full years of professional nursing experience which includes includes providing emergency department (ED) clinical nursing care to patients of any age group; operating and monitoring highly complex technical equipment, (e.g. cardiac monitors, ventilators, various intravenous infusion pumps, and defibrillators) and documents appropriately in the health record; Interviewing and taking medical histories, to acquire medically necessary information to assess physical and mental status of patients and serving as a resource person for nurses and other health care providers to consult when particularly difficult problems in the care of patients arise. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
