Full job description

Description

Amazon Leo is Amazon’s low Earth orbit satellite network. Our mission is to deliver fast, reliable internet connectivity to customers beyond the reach of existing networks. From individual households to schools, hospitals, businesses, and government agencies, Amazon Leo will serve people and organizations operating in locations without reliable connectivity.

CT OTA Rolling out team is looking for a Senior SDE to drive the Over-The-Air (OTA) software updates to millions of Customer Terminals (CTs) across multiple hardware variants in the field. You'll own the systems that ensure every CT from factory-fresh to years-deployed can be safely, reliably, and rapidly updated at massive scale.

This is a high-impact role at the intersection of distributed systems, embedded software delivery, and fleet management. You'll work closely with firmware, satellite networking, and operations teams to automate the process and the infrastructure that keeps our constellation's ground segment current and healthy.

Export Control Requirement:

Due to applicable export control laws and regulations, candidates must be a U.S. citizen or national, U.S. permanent resident (i.e., current Green Card holder), or lawfully admitted into the U.S. as a refugee or granted asylum.

Key job responsibilities

A successful engineer in this role is :

  • Have experience with OTA update systems, fleet management platforms, or large-scale device management (IoT, mobile, embedded, or similar)

  • Have experience with staged/progressive rollout strategies and automated release safety mechanisms

  • Have experience building observability and anomaly detection for device fleets

  • Highly analytical: You solve problems in ways that can be backed up with verifiable data. You focus on driving processes, tools, and statistical methods which support rational decision-making.

  • Technically aware: You aren't satisfied by performing 'as expected' and push the limits past conventional boundaries. Your dial goes to '11'.

  • You’re ambitious, yet humble: You recognize that there’s always opportunity for improvement and use introspection and feedback from teammates and peers to raise the bar for your team.

  • Engaged by ambiguity: You're able to explore new problem spaces with unique constraints and thus non-obvious solutions; you’re quick to identify any gaps in the team and the right person to fill them to best deliver value to customers.

  • Own technical vision and direction: You identify problems and develop solutions; you embrace performance metrics and measurement techniques because they help you assess how well system-related services are running.

A day in the life

A Software Development Engineer works closely with Principal Engineer, Sr. Principal Engineer to deal with ambiguity and define technical strategy. The engineer will also work with the release teams to deeply understand the current workflow, use cases, pain points, inefficiency and come up with innovative simple solution.

Basic Qualifications

  • Experience leading the design, automation, deployment, and support of large-scale infrastructure

  • Experience programming with at least one modern language such as Python, Ruby, Golang, Java, C++, C#, Rust

  • Experience with Linux/Unix

  • Experience with CI/CD pipelines build processes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with distributed systems at scale
