The Opportunity

As a METx Data & Analytics undergraduate intern, you’ll work alongside experienced data professionals, contribute to real projects, and share your outcomes and learning experiences with peers and leaders at the end of the program. Our program is designed for students who are curious, adaptable, and eager to learn new technologies in a collaborative, innovative environment.

Application Process & Program Information

  • Applications for this role will close December 1, 2026.
  • Qualified candidates will be invited to interview on a rolling basis - no interview activity will take place between December 21, 2026 through January 18, 2027.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States and must not require MetLife sponsorship or support for a work permit or visa in any capacity now or in the future.
  • Interns will start in person on June 1st, 2027 and will work approximately 40 hours /week over the course of ten weeks - candidates must be available for the entire duration of the program.
  • All D&A interns will be hybrid in Cary, NC.
  • MetLife does not provide housing or a relocation/housing stipend or support for this role.

Key Responsibilities

Our interns work on meaningful projects impacting millions of customers, receive mentorship from highly skilled data experts and industry leaders, and build robust technical skills. At the end of the internship, you will have a chance to share your project outcomes and learning experiences with peers and leaders. Intern projects may include:

  • Data Engineering & Pipeline Automation: Automate data pipelines using Azure and Databricks to support business reporting.
  • Machine Learning & Predictive Analytics: Develop machine learning models to predict customer behavior, pricing, threat monitoring, and other outcomes based on historical data patterns.
  • Generative AI & Agentic AI Innovation: Brainstorm and develop potential GenAI and Agentic AI solutions to enhance operations and capabilities.
  • Analytics Solution Development: Develop and test analytics solutions, including writing Databricks notebooks and validating data.
  • Business Process Analysis & Improvement: Analyze, identify opportunities for improvement, and document business processes to support data-driven projects.
  • Data Visualization & Reporting: Build dashboards and reports to visualize key business metrics.
  • Production Support & Incident Management: Provide production support and help resolve data-related incidents.
  • Data Governance & Management: Document key data assets, apply data governance standards, and support data management to improve transparency and compliance.
  • Strategic Initiatives & Cross-Functional Collaboration: Support strategic or operational initiatives while collaborating with cross-functional teams.

Required Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree or post-secondary training in Data Science, Business Analytics, Artificial Intelligence, Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, Statistics, Management Information Systems, or a related field.

  • Must have an expected graduation date no later than June 2029.

  • Minimum GPA of 3.0.

  • Strong analytical mindset with ability to identify patterns and insights from data as demonstrated through academic coursework or personal projects.

  • Coursework or experience with at least one programming language or analytics tool (e.g., Python, SQL, Scala, C#, C++).

  • Ability to analyze, ingest, and organize raw data and perform data transformation for modeling.

  • Knowledge of or experience using AI models, integrating AI-enabled solutions into business or technical workflows.

  • Desire to learn new technologies, tools, and business processes.

  • Strong communication and critical thinking, and teamwork skills.

  • Curiosity, adaptability, and a growth mindset.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Exposure to data visualization tools (e.g., Tableau, Power BI) or cloud platforms.

  • Familiarity with cloud-based data and analytics environments, particularly Microsoft Azure and Databricks.

  • Experience with collaborative tools (e.g., GitHub, Azure DevOps) or agile methodologies.

  • Exposure to data governance tools (e.g., Collibra, Ataccama, EDC).

  • Relevant certifications (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Data Analyst Associate).

  • Experience with data pipelines, systems, and process design.

  • Exposure to advanced analytics, machine learning, and feature engineering.

Location Expectation: This is a hybrid role requiring a minimum of 3 days per week in office.

The expected salary range for this position is $28-30 /Hour.
