Full job description
Description We are looking for a detail-oriented Staff Accountant to join our team in San Luis Obispo, California. In this role, you will support accurate financial operations across multiple entities by contributing to reporting, reconciliations, tax compliance, and monthly close activities. This position works closely with accounting leadership while also partnering with employees, vendors, and internal departments to resolve questions and strengthen day-to-day processes.
Responsibilities:

Prepare financial statements for multiple entities, including profit and loss reports and balance sheets, while helping maintain reporting accuracy and timeliness.

Maintain accounting records for affiliated companies, reconcile general ledger activity, and support cross-company alignment efforts as needed.

Complete monthly tax filings and contribute to annual tax preparation activities in accordance with reporting deadlines.

Oversee rebate accounting by tracking program activity, reconciling balances, and recording related journal entries.

Administer fixed asset records, calculate monthly depreciation, and ensure all entries are properly reflected in the general ledger.

Handle daily cash and banking tasks, including account monitoring, report distribution, payment scheduling, and prompt resolution of variances.

Process accounts payable disbursements for approval, manage company credit card activity, and maintain petty cash balances with proper documentation.

Reconcile assigned balance sheet accounts, track prepaid and debt schedules, post amortization entries, and support monthly close requirements.

Organize audit support materials, respond to audit-related requests, and assist with annual budgeting, financial analysis, and other special projects.

Prepare operational and expense reports for leaders, investigate discrepancies through root-cause analysis, and recommend improvements to accounting procedures and internal controls. Requirements • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field, or equivalent experience in accounting operations.

5–7 years of hands-on experience in accounting or finance with responsibility for general ledger activity and financial reporting.

Experience working within a full ERP environment such as SAP, JD Edwards, Microsoft Dynamics, or a comparable enterprise accounting system.

Working knowledge of corporate tax, sales tax, journal entries, fixed assets, account reconciliations, and month-end close processes.

Strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel, along with practical skills in other Microsoft 365 applications such as Word, Outlook, OneNote, and Teams.

Ability to analyze financial discrepancies, identify underlying causes, and implement practical solutions with strong attention to detail.

Effective written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively across departments and respond professionally to questions from stakeholders.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple deadlines, prioritize workload, and maintain accuracy in a fast-paced environment.
