Job Title: Electronics Technician Job Description

The Electronics Technician operates with limited supervision and is responsible for testing, troubleshooting, repairing, and modifying electronic or mechanical products, parts, equipment, and systems. This role involves applying principles and theories of electronics, electrical circuitry, and electronic testing to ensure the high performance of products.

Responsibilities

  • Test, troubleshoot, repair, and modify electronic and mechanical products and systems.

  • Read blueprints, wiring diagrams, and schematic drawings to understand product specifications.

  • Use manufacturing and engineering instructions for testing assembled electronic or mechanical units.

  • Create non-conformance reports, detailing testing performed, failures encountered, and root cause investigations.

  • Interpret and work according to work orders, drawings, schematics, and test procedures.

  • Calibrate and adjust units through component selection, potentiometer adjustment, and other methods.

  • Perform automated and manual testing using a variety of testing equipment.

  • Support business initiatives like 5S, KPIs, and problem-solving.

  • Maintain logs and manuals for documenting testing and operation of equipment.

  • Cross-train less experienced technicians and assume leadership roles in value streams.

  • Troubleshoot production failures down to the component level and work on complex units with limited supervision.

  • Practice safe work habits in accordance with OSHA standards and company policy.

  • Be flexible and willing to work overtime as necessary.

Essential Skills

  • 3+ years of experience for Level II positions and 5+ years for Level III positions.

  • Proficiency in assembly and soldering techniques.

  • Experience with electronic testing and troubleshooting down to the component level.

  • Ability to read and understand blueprints and electrical schematics.

  • Skilled in using ERP systems such as Oracle.

  • Familiarity with both digital and analog circuits.

  • Experience working with SMT and through-hole components.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • AA degree in Electronics or Mechanical Technology.

  • IPC certifications such as IPCA610, IPC620, IPC7711/7721, JSTD001.

  • Experience with various PCB types and electronic components.

  • Capability to perform rework/reflow on electronic assemblies and solder under a microscope.

  • Experience with automated and manual testing equipment like oscilloscopes, DMMs, and burn-in ovens.

  • Ability to execute environmental and acceptance test procedures.

Work Environment

Working conditions are typical of a manufacturing environment, which may require safety equipment like eye safety glasses, masks, and hearing protectors. The role may involve exposure to loud noises, cold temperatures, and confined spaces. Technicians will spend approximately 80% of their time sitting and 20% standing, and may need to lift up to 35 pounds and push up to 100 pounds. The workspace includes work benches and clean benches, with tasks involving the use of computers and microscopes.

Pay and Benefits

The pay range for this position is $66800.00 - $76731.00/yr.

Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.
