Job Description

Insight Global is seeking a Senior Metallurgical/Chemical Lab Technician for a leading aerospace manufacturing client in the greater Salt Lake City, Utah area. This individual will serve as the subject matter expert within the Chemical & Metallurgical Laboratory, supporting aerospace gearboxes, transmission systems, and other critical flight components. The ideal candidate will bring a strong metallurgical or materials engineering background with hands-on expertise in heat treatment, metals analysis, material classification, hardness testing, and special process compliance.

The pay range for this position is $100,000-$120,000, depending on a variety of factors including years of relevant experience, technical expertise, education, certifications, market conditions, and overall alignment with the role's requirements. Candidates with specialized skills or extensive industry experience may be considered at the higher end of the range.

Skills and Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, Metallurgical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in a chemical/metallurgical testing laboratory within aerospace manufacturing
  • Strong metallurgical background with expertise in metals, heat treat processes, and material classification
  • Experience with NADCAP Heat Treat requirements and compliance
  • Familiarity with AS9100 quality standards
  • Knowledge of ASTM and ASM standards
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and specifications
  • Experience with hardness testing (ASTM E-384, E-18, E-92, E-140)
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities
  • U.S. Citizen, Permanent Resident, or otherwise ITAR eligible
  • Authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • Master's Degree in Chemistry, Materials Science, or related field
  • Metallurgist or Metallographer background
  • Experience developing and validating heat treat processes
  • Knowledge of plating and special processes
  • Experience with optical microscopy, electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and metallurgical analysis equipment
  • Failure analysis and failure prevention experience
  • Lean / Six Sigma experience
  • AS9102 First Article Inspection experience
  • AS13100 experience
  • GD&T training
  • Aerospace gear, bearing, or power transmission component experience
  • Chemical laboratory experience in addition to metallurgical expertise
