Job Summary (Purpose and Function):
The Pharmacy Manager is responsible for providing managerial and programmatic direction for theoperation of the pharmacy services. The Manager coordinates and develops standards of workperformance and plans, directs, and monitors the provision of distributive and clinical pharmacyservices to all patient care areas. The Manager ensures the functions of the department areconsistent with the practice of the department and hospital’s policies and procedures. The Managermust demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of thepatients being served by the healthcare facility.
The Pharmacy Manager reports to the Executive Director of Pharmacy and is ultimately responsiblefor the entire operation of the Department.
Accountabilities (For Non-exempt Employees Include Percent of Effort):
A) Responsible for the provision of pharmacy services and all routine operations of the PharmacyDepartment, and the recruitment, selection, orientation, professional development and evaluation ofemployees. Serves as a change agent, role model, and facilitator for education, consultation, andresearch.
B) Develops goals, objectives, and programs for the pharmacy department consistent with those ofthe organization’s overall strategic plan. Demonstrates effective inter-disciplinary andinter-facility collaboration. Plans efficient and effective utilization of resources. Ensurescompliance with regulatory agency standards. Implements decisions of the hospital’s Pharmacy andTherapeutics Committee and other hospital committees in relation to formulary management andprocess improvements. Assumes accountability for special projects as assigned.
C) Defines and resolves issues with the medication distribution system and continually evaluatesperformance relative to need for expansion or revision of processes to assure the safe andappropriate delivery of medications to all patient care areas within the healthcare facility. Provides leadership for development and implementation of innovative systems of medication deliveryand drug therapy monitoring to assure safe and appropriate administration of medications within thehealthcare facility.
D) Provides leadership and direction to the pharmacy staff including Staff Pharmacists andPharmacy Technician Staff. Promotes positive customer relations and actively contributes to asupportive work environment. Fosters a team environment within the department. Communicates withthe Executive Director of Pharmacy Services regarding operational and personnel issues.
E) Establishes and revises, when necessary, standards of care for pharmacy practice. Monitors andensures compliance with departmental and organizational policies and procedures, Federal and Statelaws, and accrediting bodies’ standards. Investigates and initiates the resolution of customercomplaints. Plans,1
supports, and leads Qu yservices. Facilitates appropriateutilization of resources.F) Facilitates effective working relationships with physicians, nursing staff, administration,and other personnel. Serves as a professional resource in facilitating inter-disciplinary practiceand communication. Serves as a resource to staff, physicians, and patients for pharmacy andorganizational policies.
G) Strives to improve patient safety in all aspects of performance of the above essential functions, reports/documents medication errors, and attends safety in-services, whenappropriate.

- Qualified candidates must have a valid Florida Pharmacist license. PharmD is required;consideration will be given to all candidates who have been grandfathered by the state of Floridato keep their licenses active/current if obtained before the changes to the Pharmacists’ licenses(PharmD requirement) took place, this also includes candidates from other countries that haveobtained a Florida license.2. Minimum of three years pharmacy management experience in a progressive hospital setting.3. Must possess good organizational, computer and management skills.4. Must possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills for interfacing with all levels offaculty and staff at the University of Miami.5. Must have knowledge of computer software, particularly pharmacy system software, Microsoftapplications and automated dispensing technologies.2
