Job Description
Seeking a Mechanical Engineer to join our growing team and help develop the physical autonomy systems that enable large-scale mining vehicles to operate autonomously. In this role, you will own mechanical designs from concept through deployment, designing, building, validating, and integrating the hardware that allows sensors, actuators, compute systems, and drive-by-wire components to operate reliably in harsh real-world environments.
This role sits at the intersection of mechanical engineering, robotics, autonomous vehicles, and heavy equipment integration. You will work on everything from sensor mounting systems and ruggedized enclosures to vehicle retrofit kits and electromechanical assemblies. The ideal candidate enjoys owning hardware through the full product lifecycle and is comfortable moving between CAD design, prototyping, vehicle installation, and field debugging.
- Vehicle Integration & Hardware Ownership: Design and integrate autonomy hardware onto large mining and transport vehicles. Own the mechanical integration strategy for sensors, compute systems, antennas, actuators, and supporting hardware while balancing performance, serviceability, manufacturability, and reliability.
- Mechanical Design & Product Development: Develop mechanical systems including sensor mounts, enclosures, brackets, structural components, electromechanical assemblies, and vehicle retrofit hardware. Create solutions that can withstand vibration, shock loading, dust, moisture, temperature extremes, and other environmental challenges encountered in mining operations.
- Drive-by-Wire & Electromechanical Systems: Design and support integration of mechanical and electromechanical hardware that interfaces with vehicle controls, actuators, sensors, and autonomy systems. Collaborate with Electrical, Embedded, Controls, and Systems Engineering teams to develop complete solutions.
- Prototype Development & Validation: Design, build, and test prototypes using fabrication, machining, sheet metal, and rapid prototyping techniques. Develop validation plans and perform testing to ensure hardware performs reliably in real-world operating environments.
- Deployment & Field Support: Support vehicle installations, troubleshooting, validation, and deployment activities at customer sites and mine operations. Work directly on large equipment to identify issues, gather feedback, and implement mechanical improvements.
- Documentation & Scaling: Create and maintain engineering drawings, Bills of Material (BOMs), manufacturing documentation, installation instructions, and validation reports. Help transform one-off vehicle integrations into scalable hardware kits deployable across multiple platforms.
- Cross-Functional Engineering: Partner closely with Perception, Controls, Embedded Firmware, Electrical, and Systems Engineering teams to develop integrated autonomy solutions and solve complex multidisciplinary engineering challenges.
