Full job description

This employee will be responsible for groundskeeping, landscaping, minor repairs, and maintenance duties for the research and administration facilities of SCDNR, Marine Resources Division at Fort Johnson.

Job Duties Include: • Performing routine outdoor grounds maintenance, grass cutting, trimming, edging, pruning, landscaping maintenance, flower bed maintenance, outdoor debris cleanup, and simple repairs as directed by supervisor.

  • Performing general housekeeping and custodial cleaning services of DNR facilities during the groundskeeping off-season and on an as needed bases.
  • Cleaning and dusting furniture, walls, windows and equipment.
  • Cleaning restrooms and ensuring supplies are available.
  • Consolidating indoor trash and recyclables into larger containers and ensuring trash and recycling containers are placed for pickup days.
  • Performing campus outdoor debris cleanup and removal to include natural debris (limbs, leaves, etc.), litter and including special grounds cleanup measures related to extreme weather events alongside other facilities staff.
  • Maintaining tiled and carpeted floors in SCDNR's office buildings.
  • Setting up, tearing down, and cleaning up for DNR-related meetings, conferences, open house and other functions that use DNR meeting rooms and facilities.
  • Ensuring other facilities personnel, supervisor, and DNR staff (clients) stay informed about ongoing events and changing facilities needs.
  • Following established safety policies and procedures including wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as prescribed in safety policies.

A high school diploma and two (2) years of experience in building maintenance. Knowledge, skills, and ability to perform common groundskeeping and custodial tasks. Ability to keep accurate written records. Operational knowledge of equipment: lawn mowers (riding and push), weed eaters, edgers, leaf blowers, chain saws, limb pruners, vacuums, buffers, carpet cleaners and gas/electric carts. Ability to work in adverse weather conditions. Ability to lift heavy objects and occasionally work from a ladder.
