Summary
The Advanced Medical Support Assistant (AMSA) serves as a Medical Support for Community Care Services and has the ability to fully perform the duties/functions related to all aspects of the full performance Advanced Medical Support Assistant, GS-0679-06 position in North Charleston under the Community Care Service Line.
Duties
Major duties include but are not limited to - Scheduling, canceling, re-scheduling patient's appointments and/or consults - Entering no-show information- Preparing for clinic visits - Ensuring encounter forms are completed - Monitoring both inpatient and outpatient appointments for areas of responsibility - Verifying and updating demographics and insurance information - Processing of all emergency and non-emergency transfers to other VA facilities or private hospitals - Performing basic eligibility, co-pays and preauthorization requirements for specific coverage - Routinely communicates with physicians, case managers and other allied health professional staff using sound interpersonal skills Work Schedule: 0730-1600pm Telework: No Virtual: This is not a virtual position. Applicants pending the completion of educational or certification/licensure requirements may be referred and tentatively selected but may not be hired until all requirements are met. Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency: Applicants appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English. Experience: Six months experience of clerical, office or other work that indicates the ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position; OR Education: One year above high school; OR Experience/Education Combination: Equivalent combination of experience and education are qualifying for entry level for which both education and experience are acceptable. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria).Grade Determinations: Must possess one (1) full year (52 weeks) of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-05). Preferred Experience: Strong background in scheduling and a comprehensive understanding of medical terminology. The actual grade at which an applicant may be selected for this vacancy is the grade of GS-06.
