Position Summary

Assists the Watch Engineer in operating, maintaining and repairing the vessel engineering and dredging equipment.

Experience Level

Intermediate

Primary Responsibilities and Duties

  • Routinely makes rounds while logging the condition of the equipment.

  • Report any unusual machinery operations to the engineer.

  • Maintain the cleanliness of engine spaces and equipment.

  • Ensure oil pressure and temperature levels are kept at their proper state.

  • Participate in all repairs and maintenance projects during idle periods.

  • Perform duties as directed by the Watch Engineer such as, but not limited to, grease machinery and take soundings for storage tanks.

  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Ability to work a rotational work schedule.

  • Ability to live aboard vessel for full rotation.

  • Microsoft Office Suite (preferred).

  • Ability to understand, follow and transmit written and oral instructions and communicate effectively with craft workers under his/her supervision and management/supervision.

  • Ability to use hand tools, power tools and layout tools safely and efficiently.

Requirements

  • Must be able to tolerate rough seas, vibrations, heat, harsh weather conditions, confined spaces, and high noise levels.

  • Work will frequently require individuals to push, pull, bend or stand for long periods of time, and climb ladders.

  • Must be able to lift or carry miscellaneous equipment, supplies and parts up to 50 lbs. unassisted.

  • Performs other duties as required.
