Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist as needed to justify and initiate capital expenditure requests and requests for employee additions and replacements.

  • Recruit, interview and select warehouse and delivery personnel. Ensure employee development through training and delegation of responsibility; assist employees in career planning.

  • Analyze and initiate efforts to control expenses. Operate the plant with a high emphasis on safety and accident prevention. Conduct or attend all monthly safety meetings.

  • Initiate employee counseling or disciplinary sessions where appropriate to maintain order, safety, quality, housekeeping, and productivity.

  • Develop and implement procedures designed to improve plant operations.

  • Conduct annual performance and wage/salary reviews with subordinate personnel. Ensure subordinates are managing their reviews commensurate with a system that recognizes high performance and supports the growth and development of the workforce.

  • Review and approve expenses related to plant operation. Explore opportunities for expense reduction.

  • Supervise the development and implementation of work schedules for supervisors, warehouse and delivery personnel.

  • Educate subordinate employees on district operating policies and procedures.

  • Respond to periodic requests for information from management and corporate functions.

  • Encourage operations employees to offer creative and innovative solutions to problems, which impede district growth and profitability.

  • Monitor and assure the proper maintenance of plant and equipment. Support the development and implementation of an effective preventive maintenance program.

  • Suggest changes in plant layout and design where appropriate.

  • Applying Lean Manufacturing principles, submit recommendations for the addition of material handling and processing equipment where needed.

  • Monitor the effectiveness of district shipping and receiving operations. Drive efficiency improvements in truck scheduling and utilization.

  • Monitor the utilization of plant equipment, rolling stock and manpower in a lean environment.

  • Ensure compliance with O'Neal quality policies and manual.

  • Encourage operating personnel to reduce processing, shipping and delivery errors; monitor the overall quality of goods and services produced by the operation and actively work to reduce the number of RA's, credits, debits, etc.

  • Promote and maintain effective housekeeping using guidelines and disciplines. Obtain necessary permits, licenses, etc. for normal business operation.

  • Reduce and eliminate where possible circumstances which may lead to the personal injury of employees, or loss or damage of company equipment. Monitor and maintain an effective safety program.

  • Promote a positive employee environment that will encourage all employees to participate in their growth and the growth of the district. Train supervisory personnel in these techniques.

  • Conduct job duties in a manner that contributes to the district maintaining its union free status.

  • Ensure compliance with OSHA and EPA standards.

  • Create an atmosphere of continuous improvement in all facets of the operation; move to increase self-directed work and less direct supervision of employees through the implementation of Lean Manufacturing.

  • Actively promote excellent customer service through example, training, and ensuring that all commitments to customers are met, including delivery promises, special instructions and processing tolerances.

  • Quality Responsibility: Responsible for providing error-free work to all internal and external customers as related to the output of their position.

Skills and Qualifications

  • 3+ years years as a Production Supervisor, supervising operating employees in material handling, processing, fabrication, maintenance, scheduling, delivery and safety.

  • Proficient in MS Excel, MS Word, MS Outlook.

  • Experience with ERP system required.

  • Able to work in a high-paced environment.

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

  • 2- or 4-year degree Business Administration, Engineering or Industrial Management, or equivalent experience, required.

  • Speak conversational English.

  • Special Skills (above average skill required): analysis and interpretation, communication (oral and written), interpersonal skills, motivation, organization, problem solving, supervision, interdepartmental coordination, developing group cooperation and teamwork, coping with difficulties and emergencies, promoting safety attitudes and practices, employee development and personnel practices.

  • Production Managers must be able to concentrate and maintain productivity in high-pressure situations.

  • Additional Skills: Production Managers are expected to have a general knowledge of order entry applications in the O'Neal order fulfillment system.

  • They are expected to have an in depth understanding or warehouse applications within this same system.

  • Experience with, and understanding of, Lean Manufacturing principles.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift 20 lbs. as needed.

  • Ability to bend, stand, climb, twist and stoop for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to perform sedentary work including sitting for extended periods of time.

  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.

  • Have good vision of 20/30 with corrective lenses.

  • Ability to maintain coordination of hand and finger movements to grasp and manipulate objects with precision.

  • Travel as needed to accomplish desired results. Overnight travel may be required occasionally.

Subject to environmental conditions that occur indoors and outdoors which includes but is not limited to exposure to changing temperatures, loud noises, vibration from use of equipment and the following:

  • Hazards: Variety of physical conditions, such as proximity to moving mechanical parts, electrical current, exposure to high heat or exposure to chemicals.

  • Atmospheric conditions: One or more of the following conditions that affect the respiratory system or the skin – fumes, odors, dust, mist, gases or poor ventilation.

  • Oils: there is air and/or skin exposure to oils and other cutting fluids.
