Minimum Qualifications:
Ninety (90) college hours and five (5) years of full-time, continuous law enforcement service with
at least two (2) years as a sergeant of higher rank or ten (10) years of full-time, continuous law enforcement service with at least five (5) years as a sergeant or higher rank
Required:

Active Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Peace Officer license unless a lateralhire from outside the State of Texas

Texas Commission on Law Enforcement (TCOLE) Intermediate Certification or equivalent trainingand certification requirement for out-of-state candidates, as approved by TCOLE

Valid driver's license not subject to suspension and eligible to drive without limitation a motorvehicle owned or leased by The University of Texas System
Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree from an accredited institution of higher education

Prior supervisory or leadership experience as a lieutenant or higher

Seven (7) years of experience managing complex multijurisdictional operations at a supervisorylevel.

Job Summary:
Responsible for the direct supervision of Sergeants, or other staff as assigned engaged in, and in
support of, the protection of life and property within The University of Texas Medical Branch and areas
under the jurisdiction of The University of Texas System. Exercises independent judgment within
limits prescribed by law, Board of Regents’ Rules and Regulations, Office of Director of Police -
approved policies and procedures, and UT Medical Branch Police and University policies and
procedures. Serves as a Campus Security Authority (CSA) under the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of
Campus Security Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act). Maintains the highest ethical
standards and ensures that all subordinate personnel uphold ODOP and institutional values of
integrity, respect, accountability, and service.
Job Duties:

Plans, organizes, and supervises departmental activities including the enforcement of the Board ofRegents' Rules and Regulations concerning the conduct of staff, students, and visitors, as well astraffic and parking.

Inspects roll-call and exit briefings of incoming and outgoing commissioned officer shifts.
-
Monitors the operation of the Department's communication center and supervises dispatchers andtelephone operators in the performance of their respective duties.
-
Instructs University Police training programs.
-
Assists local police agencies in serving warrants on property within the areas under the controland jurisdiction of the University of Texas Medical Branch.
-
Serves as a Campus Security Authority as defined by the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of CampusSecurity Policy and Campus Crime Statistics Act (Clery Act).”

Directs, reviews, and evaluates criminal and administrative investigations.
-
Executes all lawful processes, provides required notifications to magistrates, recovers lost orstolen property, and assists in locating missing persons within University jurisdiction.

Checks and evaluates the performance, conduct, appearance, and productivity of subordinates.
-
Provides guidance, direction, and clarification on departmental policies, procedures, rules,regulations, and legal updates to ensure staff understanding and adherence.
-
Receives, communicates, and relays directives, assignments, special orders, and operationalpriorities to subordinate personnel.
-
Reviews, analyzes, and prepares administrative and operational reports.
-
Develops, administers, and participates in training programs, briefings, meetings, and leadershipdevelopment initiatives.

Coordinates and collaborates with local, state, federal, and University agencies and departmentsto support integrated, effective, and safe operations.

Ensures consistent and effective communication through briefings, written directives, andinterdepartmental coordination.

Serves on committees and working groups related to safety, emergency management, policydevelopment, or other areas of operational importance.

Assists in the selection, background investigation, and onboarding of personnel; participates inrelated hiring and evaluation processes.

Assists with strategic data-driven planning responsibilities.

Adheres to internal controls and reporting structure.

Working Environment/Equipment:

This is an in-office position that reports to their assigned campus/work location.

Work may occur indoors or outdoors under varying weather and environmental conditions.

Work involves exposure to potentially hazardous or dangerous situations inherent to lawenforcement.

Physical demands include standing, walking, running, stooping, climbing, crouching, pushing,pulling, lifting, carrying, reaching above the head, and grasping.

Must maintain good physical condition, agility, vision, hearing, and overall fitness required toperform law enforcement duties safely and effectively.

May be assigned to any shift, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as required for operationalreadiness.

May be exposed to such occupational hazards as communicable diseases, bloodbornepathogens, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation, hazardous medications, and disoriented orcombative patients or others.
