HOURLY RATE: $19.00

DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves assisting with providing unlicensed imaging services to patients under the direct supervision of a licensed technologist employed by the Radiology Department of Erie County Medical Center Corporation (ECMCC). The incumbent performs radiologic activities which are appropriate to their level of knowledge and skill. Part-time employment means work of less than fifty percent of the time prescribed in a normal work week (defined in Rule I(6) of the Rules for the Classified Civil Service of the County of Erie). Supervision is not a function of this position. Does related work as required.

TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

  • Identifies each patient and reviews each patient’s requisition, for consistency of examination ordered with clinical diagnosis and physician’s order;

  • Prepares patients for examination and explains procedure to the patient while performing assigned studies;

  • Records pertinent data on radiologic requisitions (Tech initials, explanation for limited exam, patient complaint, etc.);

  • Reviews completed exams for technical accuracy;

  • Identifies anatomical orientation on all required images and ensures proper film identification on all images. Consults with staff technologist when needed;

  • Uses appropriate devices to obtain permanent record of examination;

  • Recognizes electronic equipment limitations;

  • Maintains departmental paperwork;

  • May assist with patient transport;

  • Implements radiation protection and safety standards.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of goals, objectives, structure and operations of Radiology Department; working knowledge of the fundamentals and terminology of Radiology; ability to maintain confidentiality and HIPPAA compliance; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse constituency; ability to utilize a variety of electronic software applications; good professional judgement; courteous; reliable and trustworthy; capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Candidates must be enrolled in and have completed one year of an accepted two-year radiology training program*.

SPECIAL REQUIREMENT:

Possession of Basic Life Support certification as issued by the American Heart Association at time of appointment and maintenance throughout duration of appointment.

NOTE*: Your program must be accredited by a regional, national or specialized agency recognized as an accrediting agency by the U.S. Department of Education/U.S. Secretary of Education.
