Position Title: Design Engineer

The Opportunity

AGI is seeking a Design Engineer to join our engineering team in Naperville, Illinois. This role is responsible for preparing detailed engineering designs, drawings, and specifications for manufactured products, machinery, and mechanical systems. The successful candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams and customers to develop innovative, reliable, and cost-effective solutions that support AGI's commitment to excellence in the global food supply chain.

Responsibilities:

  • Generate, evaluate, and analyze design concepts using a fact-based engineering approach.

  • Develop detailed 3D models, drawings, and specifications for mechanical equipment utilizing CAD software, preferably Autodesk Inventor.

  • Prototype and test design concepts to validate performance and functionality.

  • Collaborate with engineering, manufacturing, and operations teams to develop product designs and resolve technical challenges.

  • Compute engineering calculations and develop detailed specifications for components and machinery.

  • Modify and revise designs to improve performance, enhance manufacturability, and reduce production issues.

  • Interface directly with customers and customer service teams to support troubleshooting, project planning, and feedback collection.

  • Prepare technical illustrations, manuals, and documentation to support operation and maintenance of mechanical systems.

  • Support product development initiatives and continuous improvement efforts across the organization.

  • Ensure designs comply with applicable engineering standards, company requirements, and customer specifications.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Agricultural Engineering, or a related field preferred. Associate degree with relevant experience will be considered.

  • Minimum of 2 years of related engineering or design experience preferred.

  • Proficiency with 3D modeling and CAD software; Autodesk Inventor experience strongly preferred.

  • Experience with drafting and design for metal fabrication.

  • Knowledge of material handling equipment, grain systems, or agricultural equipment is a plus.

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and troubleshooting skills.

  • Familiarity with ERP/MRP systems.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally up to 5-10% of the time.
