The School of Sciences & Health Sciences is seeking a full-time Simulation Operations Specialist to join their team at the Van Gerpen Simulation Center. In this role, you will support innovative, hands-on learning experiences by preparing realistic simulation environments, running scenario setups and breakdowns, and applying scenario-specific moulage. You will maintain advanced equipment and simulators, manage scheduling and space utilization, and oversee crucial documentation, data, and accreditation activities. Working closely with faculty and the simulation team, you will play a central role in delivering seamless, interactive educational experiences that drive student success.

Essential Job Functions
Important responsibilities and duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

Maintains, operates, and supports all simulators and equipment within the simulation lab and its extensions.

Oversees independent open lab demonstrations and skills proficiency for students.
-
Assists with data analysis to evaluate simulation learning success and satisfaction.
-
Assists faculty with professional development and continuing education courses with simulation.
-
Troubleshoots and/or repairs all equipment.
-
Reports all technical or program issues that arise.
-
Performs daily, weekly, monthly maintenance for all simulators.
-
Assists with budgeting, supply, and inventory.
-
Assists with development and maintenance of a simulation scenario data storage strategy.
-
Assists in the selection of appropriate mannequins, learning technologies, hardware and software for simulation.
-
Assists with researching and recommends emerging technologies and tools for use in classroom, online, and laboratory settings.
-
Assists with tracking simulation efforts as they relate to organizational goals and quality improvement measures.

Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, current literature, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in simulation and use of instructional strategies to improve student learning.

Participates in community outreach programs, including promotional materials, conducting tours of the facilities, participating in public relations activities, and performing community service.

Works with vendors to resolve issues.

Participates in internal and external committees as assigned.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Unless otherwise approved under Hawkeye’s remote work policy, regular on campus and/or onsite attendance is considered an essential function of the position.
Minimum Qualifications
-
Associates degree in a related field and two (2) years of experience or equivalent combination of education or experience to total four (4) years.
-
Must possess or ability to obtain Basic & Advanced Cardiac Life Support certification (renewed and current) within 3 months of hire.
-
Knowledge of using instructional technology.
-
Knowledge of general health science/medical education, human anatomy and physiology, critical care procedures, and pharmacology.
-
Knowledge of working with medical equipment and supplies.
-
Demonstrated ability to move 90 lb. Mannequin or simulator within the lab.
-
Demonstrated ability to use sophisticated medical simulation technologies including human patient simulation and clinical skills simulation.
-
Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
-
Demonstrated ability to work with a wide array of students, faculty, staff, and the general public.
-
Ability to demonstrate strong interpersonal communication.
-
Skilled in Microsoft Office Suite, Google applications, and video conferencing technology.
-
Demonstrated ability to execute organization and department policies and procedures.
-
Demonstrated ability to handle confidential/sensitive information with discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Associate’s or bachelor’s degree in healthcare, education, simulation technology, or a related field.

Experience working in a healthcare simulation center, educational environment, clinical setting, or laboratory.

Strong communication and customer service skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively
-
Experience with inventory management, ordering supplies, and maintaining equipment records.
-
Strong organizational, time-management, and record-keeping skills with the ability to manage multiple activities and priorities
-
Self-motivated and willingness to learnnew skills
Working Conditions
Anticipated schedule is Monday – Friday 8:00 am through 4:30 pm with the flexibility in start time as needed for community events. Additionally occasional weekend and evening hours could occur.
Work is performed either in or a combination of an office, classroom or lab setting using technology. Requires good hand-eye coordination including visual acuity to use a keyboard and read technical information; arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. Sit, stand, bend, lift and move frequently during working hours. During course of day, interact with students, faculty and staff in person, by telephone and computers.
Employment Status
Full-time, hourly position with comprehensive or competitive benefits program including health, dental, vision, life, and LTD insurance, a Section 125 plan for medical and dependent care expenses; holiday, personal, sick, and vacation leave; tuition reimbursement; and a choice of retirement programs—IPERS (defined benefit) or TIAA (defined contribution).
