Summary
Organizational Location: This position is with the Department of Homeland Security, within U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Office of Operations Support, CBP Watch, located in Orlando, Florida. Additional selections may be made beyond the total number of vacancies specified using this vacancy announcement. Further selections may also be made for additional organizational divisions and/or units within the duty location(s) listed above.
Duties
As a supervisor, the incumbent is responsible for supervising a team of Sector Enforcement Specialists that are assigned to the Communications Center Operations (CCO) Branch. The CCO is composed of three units, the East Sector Unit, the Southwest Sector Unit, and the West Sector Unit. The incumbent plans, assigns, reviews, and accepts, amends, or rejects work done by subordinates. This position starts at a salary of $89,508.00 (GS-12, Step 1) to $116,362.00 (GS-12, Step 10). The incumbent coordinates unit initiatives among subordinates and trains or arranges for the training of subordinates in techniques of team building and technical training necessary for accomplishment of the unit's tasks, and communicates to the team the assignment, project, or problem to be solved. Typical duties include: Identifying, distributing, and balancing workload and tasks among employees in accordance with established workflow, skill level and/or occupational specialization and adjusting priorities to ensure timely accomplishment of assigned team tasks. Evaluating and tracking the progress and quality of work performed by subordinates, and giving advice, counsel, and/or instruction on both work and administrative matters. Serving as the subject matter expert (SME) in the use of such automated enforcement information systems as National Crime Information Center (NCIC), National Law Enforcement Telecommunications Systems (NLETS), various Immigration law enforcement systems, and state law enforcement systems. Developing new or substantially modified work processes, procedures, criteria for software and hardware enhancements which strongly influence or change the way in which participating federal, state, and local user agencies utilize Custom (CBP's) HF and VHF Land Mobile Radio (LMR) networks. Experience: You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level, performing duties such as: Providing training related to the operation of integrated communication systems that utilizes radios, telephones, teletype, email, facsimile equipment, and other technological communication devices. Navigating and accessing law enforcement databases using state-of-the art interface methods and then analyzing the data and evaluating its usefulness in resolving complex and interrelated law enforcement issues. Recommending technical and procedural improvements designed to enhance law enforcement information system operations and performance. Providing real-time tactical and operational information in support of ground, sea and air operations. You must: Meet all qualification requirements, including education if applicable to this position, subject to verification at any stage of the application process; and Meet all applicable Time in Grade requirements (current federal employees must have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade or equivalent grade band in the federal service) by 09/25/2026. Security Clearance: You may be required to obtain a Secret or higher level clearance for this position. Shift Work: This position may require you to work rotating shifts and rotate days off. Work Conditions: The incumbent may also be required to work during extreme weather conditions. Leadership Training: All newly appointed first-time CBP Supervisors are required to complete mandatory training. The training will be scheduled by the Office of Training and Development within the first 90 days of appointment. The duration of the training will include 3 weeks of in residence training in Harpers Ferry, WV. Note: This training may be waived if previously completed. Supervisory Probationary Period: You may be required to serve an 18 month probationary period upon appointment.
