Full job description
The Special Education Teacher, under the direction of the Special Education Program Administrator provides quality services to special education students, kindergarten through grade 12. The Special Education Teacher has a commitment to team participation in planning and implementation of student programs including special instruction, tutorial assistance and consultation with general education staff.
Required: Students with Disabilities Certification (SWD) in any grade level.
2 Elementary Special Education Teacher Openings
Position 1: High Behavioral & Developmental Disability Needs Classroom (biting, kicking, scratching, etc.)
Support elementary students with autism, significant developmental disabilities, communication challenges, and behavioral needs. Responsibilities include implementing behavior plans, teaching social and functional skills, providing individualized instruction, and collaborating with aides, therapists, and behavior specialists.
Position 2: Medically Fragile Classroom
Support elementary students with complex medical, physical, and developmental needs. Students may require mobility assistance, feeding support, personal care, and AAC communication support. Work closely with nurses, therapists, and the special education team to help students succeed throughout the school day.
Duties and Responsibilities

Integrate therapeutic and educational needs into a classroom program
-
Utilize appropriate educational techniques and methods suited to each student's individual needs
-
Select, develop and implement appropriate materials and equipment
-
Develop a positive educational environment including appropriate behavior management strategies
-
Record, report and interpret the behavior and progress of students, making necessary program modifications as needed
-
Work and communicate effectively with parents
-
Create and maintain a positive and safe environment consisting of the health, medical and safety concerns of the students
-
Maintain supervisory responsibilities of classroom staff including Teacher Assistants, Classroom Aides, volunteers and other non-professional personnel
-
Directly supervise 4-5 employees including training, assigning and directing work, rewarding and disciplining, addressing complaints, etc..

Carry out all educational and therapeutic programs including lifting, moving and positioning
-
Participate in various teacher-related meetings and in-service sessions as necessary

All other duties as assigned
Preferred Certifications:
-
Students with Disabilities (Birth-Grade 2)

Students with Disabilities (Grades 1-6)

Students with Disabilities (Grades 5-9)

Students with Disabilities (Grades 7-12)
Minimum Requirements:
-
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university preferred
-
Valid state teaching certificate as required by state, contract/district regulations
-
Minimum of one year experience in teaching environment preferred
-
State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Elementary Teaching preferred
-
State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Secondary Teaching preferred
-
State Teacher Certification; Type: Standard Special Teaching preferred
-
Endorsement: Learning Behavior Specialist (LBS1) preferred
-
Complies with all relevant professional standards of practice
-
Current CPR if applicable
-
TB questionnaire, PPD or chest x-ray if applicable
-
Current Health certificate (per contract or state regulation)
-
Must meet all federal, state and local requirements
-
Must be at least 18 years of age
