Job Description
The Institute for Tourism and Recreation Research (ITRR) at the University of Montana is currently looking for a reliable individual to conduct nonresident visitor surveys and resident travel and recreation surveys 25-29 variable hours per week. Ideal candidate will live in Billings; however, other areas of consideration are: Columbus, Red Lodge, Bridger, Garryowen, or Crow Agency. Travel to all of the above communities listed is required in addition to one overnight trip every-other month to the Broadus area (lodging costs covered).
The position involves: 1) talking to both nonresidents and Montana residents about their travel experiences and recording the data on an iPad (provided); 2) surveying and counting nonresidents at the Billings airport (requires passing a background check); 3) collecting proportion counts along highway entry points into the state; 4) uploading data after each shift; 5) mailing airport and highway counts to ITRR on a bi-weekly basis; 6) providing a twice weekly status of activities to ITRR via telephone; 7) submitting hours worked and miles traveled via e-mail; 8) being able to work independently with little direct supervision.
Reimbursement for miles driven will be at the state rate (currently $0.349/mile). Salary is $24-26/hour depending on relevant experience.
Applicants must have a valid driver’s license, access to a reliable vehicle, and be willing to drive within the duty area. Internet access (wireless preferred) is required for uploading of data after each shift and bi-weekly paperwork submission. Applicants must be willing to work 3 days per week (up to 8-10 hrs./day) in all types of weather with work days and hours alternating each week. Position is part-time and temporary; however, the project occurs year-round. ITRR is willing to create a flexible schedule for the right applicant.
Please submit a letter of interest, resume, and three professional references.
