The overall function of this position is to assist professional engineers and higher-level technicians with traffic data collection and analysis within the District Traffic Operations Office. This position is located in District 04, Unit 002, in Bossier City, LA. The incumbent must be self-motivated, able to work independently or with minimal supervision, and capable of exercising sound judgment in the field.

Six months of experience in sub-professional engineering, heavy mobile equipment operation, or mobile equipment maintenance. The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here.Job Duties:

  • Conducts traffic data collection and analysis, including turning movement counts, 24-hour volume counts, speed studies, intersection and crash diagrams, and other traffic studies; compiles data and makes recommendations for corrective actions.
  • Develops and maintains traffic-related designs and information using CADD, including traffic control plans and traffic signal inventories, while applying DOTD engineering policies, procedures, standards, and specifications.
  • Enters and analyzes traffic data in appropriate databases and applications; prepares reports, estimates quantities, takes measurements, performs calculations, and maintains sign inventories as needed.
  • Coordinates with internal and external agencies and sections to exchange traffic-related information and support traffic operations, including State Police, local governments, District Operations, Construction, Headquarters Traffic Services, Legal, Engineers, and Project Engineers.
  • Participates in required training and provides technical assistance, including on-the-job training for lower-level technicians, and performs other duties as assigned, including emergency/disaster support.
