Director, Public Sector and Provider Partnerships

Territory: North

Why Join the CHESS Health Team

More than 40 million Americans meet the criteria for a substance use disorder, along with their families and support networks who feel it too. Our work closes that gap. We partner with public sector agencies, behavioral health providers, and health plans to build tools that identify people at risk, intervene early, refer them to treatment, and extend the reach of treatment providers so patients stay engaged and support long-term recovery.

This is a high-impact hunter role for an experienced healthcare, behavioral health, public sector, or health-tech sales professional who can build trusted relationships, navigate complex organizations, and consistently win new business. We're looking for more than closers. We're looking for mission-driven sales professionals who understand the impact of their work. At CHESS Health, a great sales quarter isn't measured only in revenue or commission. It means expanding access to solutions that support, and sometimes save, lives.

Who We Are

CHESS Health, headquartered in Rochester, NY, is a growing healthcare technology, software, and services company focused on addressing the substance use disorder crisis. Our evidence-based digital health solutions extend the reach of health plans, healthcare providers, community organizations, and state and local governments, helping them improve engagement, reduce cost of care, and achieve better outcomes.

We work at the intersection of behavioral health, healthcare technology, public-sector partnerships, value-based care, and digital health innovation, with a platform trusted by health plans, state agencies, and provider organizations across the country.

The Sales Territory and Opportunity

The territory represents significant whitespace, with some established relationships that provide a starting point for expansion. You’ll be introducing a proven, evidence-based platform to a market that's actively looking for better ways to serve SUD and behavioral health populations, backed by:

  • An established suite of solutions with real outcomes data and existing customer relationships in adjacent territories

  • Marketing, clinical, and customer success teams built to support your deals from first call to close

  • Full ownership of an 18-state plus territory footprint, with the autonomy to build your account plan and prioritize your own pipeline

  • A strong market opportunity: Medicaid behavioral health investment, CCBHC expansion, and population health initiatives are pushing more public-sector and provider dollars toward exactly what CHESS sells

As Sales Director for Public Sector & Provider Partnerships, you will own new business development and revenue growth across two market segments:

  • Public Sector & Government State departments and agencies, counties and municipalities, tribal nations, Community Service Boards, treatment courts, schools, and other government-funded behavioral health and recovery organizations.

  • Behavioral Health & Healthcare Providers Organizations ranging from single-location practices to large, multi-location and multi-state systems, including CCBHCs, FQHCs, CMHCs, primary care organizations, SUD treatment providers, and other community-based providers.

What You'll Do

  • Own the complete sales cycle, from prospecting and discovery through demos, proposals, negotiation, contracting, and close

  • Build and execute a strategic account plan for the Western U.S. territory, prioritizing high-value public sector and provider targets

  • Generate pipeline through proactive outbound prospecting, networking, referrals, and marketing-generated leads

  • Navigate complex, matrixed organizations with multiple stakeholders and approval processes, from state agency leadership to provider executive teams

  • Deliver consultative discovery and compelling presentations to government, clinical, and executive audiences

  • Manage a disciplined pipeline and accurate forecast in Salesforce, partnering with Marketing, Clinical, Customer Success, and Finance to move deals forward

What Success Looks Like

You'll own an annual sales target of $1.25 million, with an average deal size of around $83,000 across both markets. Beyond hitting the number, success means building a healthy qualified pipeline, developing trusted relationships with high-value accounts, and establishing CHESS Health as a go-to partner in behavioral health and SUD care across your territory.

What We're Looking For

  • 3+ years selling to, contracting with or working in public-sector organizations, healthcare organizations, behavioral health providers, or related markets

  • A demonstrated track record of generating new business and closing contracts as an individual contributor

  • Experience selling complex solutions with multiple stakeholders and longer sales cycles

  • Familiarity with the behavioral health ecosystem: CCBHCs, FQHCs, CMHCs, treatment courts, state behavioral health agencies, or similar government-funded programs

  • Strong consultative selling skills and comfort working independently in a remote, matrixed environment

  • Experience with Salesforce or a comparable CRM for pipeline and forecasting

  • Bachelor's degree required

Experience in behavioral health, SUD, healthcare technology, digital health, Medicaid, population health, care coordination, peer recovery support, or public-sector healthcare sales is especially valuable.

Compensation & Benefits

  • Base Salary: $100,000–$125,000, commensurate with experience

  • On Target Earnings: $180,000–$225,000

  • Uncapped commission plan with accelerators for overachievement

  • Company-paid employee health plan option effective your first day of employment

  • Comprehensive benefits package

  • Fully remote position with up to 25% travel within the United States

Territory & Location

North Central US, fully remote, up to 25% travel.

Territory includes Connecticut, Delaware, District of Columbia, Indiana, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, Michigan, Minnesota, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia, West Virginia, Wisconsin*

  • We reserve the right to update or reassign markets based on business needs, territory performance, and organizational growth.
