Job Description

The Global Advertising and Brand Management (GABM) team is responsible for creating marketplace demand and driving commerce for American Express products and services through differentiated and innovative branding, marketing, and experiences. We are American Express’ in-house creative agency. Design, OnBrand.

The Senior Account Manager, Card Design, OnBrand will report to the Account Director and lead the Card Design portfolio and process end-to-end from intake through strategic alignment, design concepting and evaluation, production, launch, and post-launch. As a Senior Account Manager, Card Design, you will be responsible for overseeing the pipeline, managing relationships with product leaders within the US & globally, and translating business needs through Card Design in support of the growing and evolving American Express product line strategy.

To be successful in this role, the candidate must have a background in brand management and/or product-led creative, excellent communication skills, and a passion for the intersection of product strategy, brand and design. They must be a natural collaborator, self-starter, and have experience leading teams through complex projects.

Responsibilities

Relationship Management:

  • Leverage strong interpersonal skills as the primary point of contact for Product Managers to foster deep relationships, build trust, and manage the day-to-day requests

  • Cultivate new and existing relationships to drive business where relevant

  • Understand a broad and diversified set of product objectives, goals, and target audiences

Product & Design Strategy:

  • Collaborate with Brand Design to develop clear, actionable briefs that translate product vision and strategy into Card Design, considering business needs, design principles, and the external perspective

  • Conduct market research, competitive analysis, and audience insights to inform design strategy

  • Identify key performance indicators (KPIs) and establish measurement frameworks to evaluate success.

Team Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with internal and external teams including strategy, creative, project management, production & card issuance to ensure the seamless execution of physical and digital card design through launch

  • Provide guidance and support to direct report(s) and project management to ensure deliverables are met and projects are executed successfully.

  • Foster a positive and collaborative work environment, promoting knowledge sharing and professional development.

Industry Expertise:

  • Stay up to date with the latest design trends, financial services products, technologies, and best practices.

  • Share industry insights and thought leadership with clients and internal teams, advising on emerging opportunities and strategies, and future proofing the Card Design strategy

Qualifications

  • 7+ years in brand management or account management at a leading creative, design, or strategy agency

  • Demonstrated experience managing relationships and fostering long-term partnerships

  • Proven track record developing strategies and briefs that led to best-in-class creative work

  • Analytical mindset with the ability to interpret data, draw insights, and make data-driven decisions

  • Ability to confidently evaluate brand/design work and provide clear perspectives rooted in insights and business needs

  • Strong understanding of product identity’s role in go-to-market planning

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with strong ability to translate strategies into presentations for senior leadership
