Summary

About the Position: Ft Bragg is 2 hrs from the beach and 5 hrs from the Appalachian Mts with easy access to I-95 and all points north and south. This central NC location enjoys seasonably weather year-round. Many facilities and services are offered: first class golfing venues and renowned universities, skeet range, riding stables, ice skating rink, fitness centers, daycare, star-quality dining, full service banking, convenience shop, barbershop, and florist. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation.

Duties

• Receive patient's specimens of blood, urine, stool, microbiological and viral cultures, tissue, body fluids and cytological specimens.
• Perform clinical laboratory tests on specimens as ordered.
• Assist in training laboratory personnel, staff and students in the performance of authorized clinical laboratory procedures, quality assurance methods, instrument maintenance.
• Perform daily, weekly and monthly maintenance of all instrumentation and replace instrument components as necessary.
• Identify unusual results or interferences that cause erroneous lab test results.

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing complex testing in a clinical laboratory setting; operating or maintaining laboratory equipment; and conducting quality control procedures in a laboratory setting. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Clinical Laboratory Science, Chemistry, or Microbiology. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages. AND Certification Requirement: Certification from the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP), American Medical Technologist (AMT) or other board or registry deemed comparable by Office of the Assistant Secretary of Defense for Health Affairs (OASD(HA)) or their designee as a Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT); Medical Technologist (MT); or Medical Lab Scientist (MLS) is required.
