Summary
About the Position: This position is located within the Eisenhower Army Medical Center at Fort Gordon, Georgia. The purpose of the position is under general supervision, the role advises clinic staff, reviews case documentation for compliance and quality, and manages routine individual cases by developing and implementing appropriate assistance plans. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation
Duties
- Assist social work staff by supporting medical and surgical inpatients and families during hospitalization.
- Gather patient-related data by reviewing records and collateral sources to identify factors affecting social service needs.
- Apply social work principles by evaluating patient behavior to help clients recognize and understand their problems.
- Conduct intake interviews by identifying client concerns and counseling patients experiencing hospitalization stress.
- Assess patient needs by synthesizing data from interviews, records, and consultations to determine relevant issues.
- Develop discharge plans by coordinating follow-up resources using knowledge of community and military services.
- Provide brief counseling by applying appropriate social work techniques to support patient treatment goals.
- Document patient progress by writing clear notes and maintaining communication with hospital staff.
Qualifications
Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes experience providing medical social services by supporting hospitalized patients and families in a clinical inpatient setting; and performing patient assessments by collecting and interpreting psychosocial data to determine care needs; and delivering brief counseling by applying social work techniques to assist patients experiencing medical-related stress; and preparing clinical documentation by recording accurate, timely progress notes to support interdisciplinary care coordination. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). OR Education: One full year of graduate level education in a field directly related to the work of the position, such as Social Work, Psychology, Human Services, Child & Family Welfare. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) by 18. Add the two percentages.
