Salary: 2026 Pay Range: $18.36 - $24.70

Job Description

Elections Clerk position is a temporary position. Elections personnel assist and report directly to the Elections Administrator/County Auditor. This position is responsible in part for the integrity of the election process and equipment. Requirements include a high level of confidentiality, knowledge of industry standards and precision to detail.

Job Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:

Data entry into the statewide voter registration system, filing, and sorting of papers and materials, completion of election cycle tasks.

Assist in the testing and tabulating of results of election equipment (pre-election quality control).

Reconcile testing documentation and create checklists for supervisor review.

Assist with conducting trainings for election clerks and judges.

Assist in preparing and distribution of election materials for the election clerks and judges.

Perform administrative election functions for the department, including creating and working with confidential spreadsheets to reconcile election counts.

Assist with absentee, mail balloting and early voting including walk in voters. Communicate with voters to successfully complete their ballot process.

Accept and rejects ballots as part of Absentee Ballot Board.

Assist in post-election reporting and canvassing of election results.

Assist with other election-related services leading up to, on, and after Election Day.

Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Education and/or Experience

TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

Experience in customer service, election judge and/or city or township clerk or experience in related fields. Or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job.

Must be eligible to vote in Minnesota.

Must complete the mandatory election judge training and meet the basic qualifications to become an election judge.

Experience with election equipment, including voting tabulation machines and iPads preferred.

Previous Election Judge experience preferred.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIREMENTS:

Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, department management, supervisor, election officials and the public.

Ability to communicate effectively by telephone, in person and in writing.

Ability to be detail oriented and complete detailed reports and applications.

Ability to maintain sensitive and confidential records and information.

Ability to make sound judgment of sensitive nature.

Skilled considerably in customer service public relations.

Ability to work independently as well as on a team.

Handle stressful situations calmly and professionally while communicating clearly with voters and serving diverse populations.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required only occasionally.
