Assistant Professor – History of Science and Technology in Asia

FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT

Position Details

The Department of History at The City College of New York (CCNY) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in the History of Science and Technology in Asia. Geographic and chronological specialization within Asia is open. We welcome scholars whose research situates science and technology within broader social, cultural, political, economic, environmental, or transnational contexts, including candidates whose work examines connections between Asia and other regions of the world. Teaching responsibilities include courses in the history of science and technology, Asian history, undergraduate and M.A. electives in the candidate’s areas of expertise, and classes that contribute to the college’s general education curriculum.

QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. in History or a related field.

Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarly achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Evidence of excellent scholarly potential;

  • Demonstrated ability to conduct research using the languages appropriate to the candidate’s field;

  • Commitment to teaching, research, and program service.

COMPENSATION

Salary Range: $79,630 - $94,017

CUNY offers faculty a competitive compensation and benefits package covering health insurance, pension and retirement benefits, paid parental leave, and savings programs. We also provide mentoring and support for research, scholarship, and publication as part of our commitment to ongoing faculty professional development.
