Our manufacturing group uses a variety of technical documents to safely and effectively produce Daktronics products. This position focuses on helping author, edit, format, and publish both new and existing documents within the manufacturing process.

What will the work look like for me?

We are looking for someone who enjoys learning complex systems, asking questions, and transforming technical information into clear, user-friendly instructions. Successful candidates are curious, detail-oriented, and motivated to improve customer experience through effective documentation.

This position is designed to help students develop professional technical communication skills and gain practical experience working alongside engineers, product managers, and technical experts.

Technical Writing Students will:

  • Ask thoughtful questions to understand products and processes.

  • Seek and incorporate feedback from reviewers and stakeholders.

  • Communicate effectively with engineers, project managers, and supervisors.

  • Continuously learn about Daktronics products and technologies.

  • Manage multiple documentation projects and meet established deadlines.

  • Help identify opportunities to improve documentation quality and consistency.

When will I work?

Applicants should be available to work approximately 15 hours per week (maximum of 20 hours per week) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per week during the summer.

Where is this position located?

This position allows the flexibility to work remotely from a home office within the North Central Region (Minnesota, Wisconsin, Iowa) of the U.S. This position is open to candidates eligible to work in the U.S.

What are the pay and perks?

The typical hiring range for this position is $16.00 to $19.00 per hour based on the location of the North Central Region (MN, WI, IA) of the U.S. The actual offer will consider a wide range of factors, including relevant education, experiences, location, and applicable local legislation.

Students with GPA of 3.5 and above may be eligible for a $500 Academic Excellence Reward for each spring and fall semester completed while employed. Additional conditions may apply.

Qualifications

To be considered for the Technical Writing Student position, we require the following:

Academic Requirements:

  • The preferred applicant will be a student registered in at least 12 credits.

  • Applicants must be currently enrolled in an accredited Bachelor’s degree program in English for Information Systems, Technical Communications, English, or Mass Communications.

  • The preferred applicant will be in their sophomore or junior year of school.

  • Only strong academic performers will be considered and must maintain an acceptable GPA.

  • Unofficial transcripts or web transcripts must be submitted with application.

Other Requirements:

  • Submit three writing samples.This may include manuals, research papers, newspaper articles, etc.

  • Good oral and written communication skills, good organizational skills, and self-motivation.

  • Comfortable learning new documentation, content management, illustration, and authoring tools.

  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.

  • Fluent in English, both written and verbal.

  • Applicants must be 18 years of age or older.
