Staff Accountant

Description We are looking for a Staff Accountant to join a community-focused organization in North Carolina on a Contract to permanent basis. This onsite role is ideal for an accounting specialist who can oversee day-to-day financial operations, maintain accurate records, and support sound reporting practices in a nonprofit environment. The position calls for someone who works collaboratively, communicates well with a diverse population, and brings a practical, service-oriented approach to financial stewardship.

Responsibilities:

• Oversee daily accounting activities, ensuring financial transactions are recorded accurately and in a timely manner.

• Maintain and reconcile the general ledger while keeping the chart of accounts organized and current.

• Prepare journal entries and support month-end and periodic close processes with thorough documentation.

• Manage tax-related accounting tasks, including sales tax tracking and support for corporate tax return preparation.

• Develop and review cost reports and other financial reports to help leadership monitor program and organizational performance.

• Use QuickBooks Online to process accounting transactions, maintain financial data, and generate routine reporting.

• Partner with internal stakeholders to support financial operations across the organization and promote a cooperative, open team environment.

• Assist with accounting activities that support services for families in need, demonstrating accountability, respect, and strong community awareness. Requirements • Experience in staff accounting or a similar accounting role with responsibility for general ledger activity and journal entries.

• Background in nonprofit accounting and an understanding of fund-based or mission-driven financial operations.

• Proficiency with QuickBooks Online in an accounting setting.

• Familiarity with preparing or supporting cost reports and maintaining an accurate chart of accounts.

• Knowledge of tax-related accounting functions, including sales tax and corporate tax return support.

• Ability to work onsite Monday through Friday in Elizabeth City, North Carolina.

• Strong interpersonal skills with a collaborative mindset and the ability to work effectively with diverse communities.
