We are proud to serve the people of Louisiana with integrity, innovation, and a deep commitment to equity.About This Position: This position plays an important role in keeping DOTD’s Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) operating safely and reliably across the state. The incumbent manages the maintenance and repair of traffic cameras, message signs, vehicle detectors, fiber optic networks, and other communication systems that help DOTD monitor and manage traffic in real time. The position works closely with technicians, vendors, contractors, consultants, and other DOTD staff to troubleshoot issues, coordinate repairs, manage projects, and ensure critical communication systems remain available to support motorists, Department personnel, and statewide operations.While in official capacity, DOTD employees must comply with applicable Louisiana and Civil Services laws, rules and regulations, as well as DOTD policies, procedures, manuals, and directives. Four years of experience or training in the maintenance and/or repair of electronic, electrical, or telecommunications devices, components, networks, or systems; OR

An associate’s degree in electrical technology or electronic systems plus two years of experience or training in the maintenance and/or repair of electronic, electrical, or telecommunications devices, components, networks, or systems.

EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION: Every 30 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university in electrical technology or electronic systems will be credited as one year of experience.The official job specifications for this role, as defined by the State Civil Service, can be found here.Job Duties:

  • Manage maintenance and repair projects for ITS equipment, including traffic cameras, dynamic message signs, vehicle detectors, fiber optic networks, communication towers, and related infrastructure.

  • Monitor and troubleshoot statewide communication and network systems, identify performance issues, coordinate repairs, and recommend improvements or new technologies. Locate, document, and protect DOTD fiber optic infrastructure, providing technical assistance for construction projects, relocations, repairs, and damage prevention within the DOTD right-of-way.

  • Support DOTD’s wireline and wireless communication services, including telephone systems, cellular equipment, radios, Wi-Fi, and other communication technologies used across DOTD facilities and roadways.

  • Coordinate with vendors, contractors, consultants, and DOTD staff to resolve technical issues, conduct inspections and preventive maintenance, provide training, maintain system documentation, and support the continuous operation of ITS systems.

Position Specific Details: Appointment Type: Probational, Promotional, Job Appointment or Detail to Special Duty. Compensation: This job is a WS-218 level and ranges from $29.53 to $53.14 / hr.
