Posting Description

POSTDOCTORAL ASSOCIATE, Center for Sustainability Science & Strategy, to join an international team of scientists working as part of the global AGAGE network and a large community of atmospheric scientists at MIT. The general goals of AGAGE are to measure the abundances of non-CO2greenhouse and ozone-depleting gases in the atmosphere and to determine emissions, transport rates and mechanisms, loss rates and mechanisms, and ozone depletion and radiative forcing by these gases. The project will focus on building intelligent systems to analyse and interpret AGAGE observational data of non-CO2greenhouse and ozone-depleting gases (e.g., N2O, CFCs, HFCs), and to extract diagnostic insights from instrument performance indicators, using machine learning methods.

Additional information about AGAGE and CS3 is available at https://agage.mit.edu (https://www-air.larc.nasa.gov/missions/agage/) and https://cs3.mit.edu.

Job Requirements

REQUIRED : Ph.D. in a relevant discipline; proficiency in scientific programming; and demonstration of experience in quantitative research. PREFERRED : Experience with machine learning methods for time-series analysis; anomaly and changepoint detection, or instrument diagnostics; familiarity with optical, gas chromatography, mass spectrometer or additional atmospheric measurement instrumentatiom; and an emerging strong track record of scientific output.

For additional information, please contact Dr. Luke Western ([email protected]), CS3, Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

This is a one-year initial appointment with the likelihood of extension, depending on performance.9/25/2026
