Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 8 years of experience in software development.

  • 3 years of experience with developing large-scale infrastructure, distributed systems or networks, or experience with compute technologies, storage or hardware architecture.

  • 3 years of experience developing cloud environments, utilizing core cloud services and cloud APIs.

  • 2 years of experience in a people management or team leadership role, managing software engineers.

Preferred qualifications:

  • Master's degree or PhD in Computer Science or related technical field.

  • 3 years of experience working in a complex, matrixed organization.

  • Experience designing large-scale data preservation, archival, or safe deletion lifecycles.

  • Familiarity with enterprise compliance and data privacy regulations.

With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.

Safe Data Deletion (SDD) is a top-priority Google Cloud compliance platform that centrally orchestrates, monitors, and verifies data deletion at scale. Ahead of our Phase 1 launch across hundreds of GCP product teams, we are seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the delivery of this critical infrastructure.

In this role, you will partner across product areas to translate regulatory requirements into high-efficiency system designs, unblock partner migrations, and advance our long-term platform roadmap. You will bring deep expertise in Google infrastructure, the GCP serving stack, and distributed batch and stream processing to ensure customer data safety in highly regulated enterprise environments.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $207000 - $300000 (USD) + 20% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Manage a team of 8 engineers working on building safe data deletion infrastructure. Work closely with them in their individual growth journeys, make and sustain the Safe Data Deletion.

  • Own the safe deletion north star goal and our delivery roadmap. Work closely with other functions and program partners to ensure aligned progress across the board to hit our overall goals.

  • Improve integration efficiency and onboarding cost to our services.

  • Own the production posture, proactively identify areas where we can improve reliability, latency and efficiency of our services.

  • Utilize AI and encourage responsible usage to improve team efficiency while ensuring accuracy.
