Full job description

Responsibilities

This position has a target start date of summer 2027.

As an Instrumentation and Controls Engineer Intern, you will be assigned to work on a project team and assist the engineering team members in the execution of their project work. These projects may involve the design of new and/or modifications and upgrades to existing power plant systems, components, and structures and are a synergistic integration of both electrical and mechanical engineering along with control theory.

Working under the direction of senior engineers, this position will offer you the opportunity to utilize and expand your academic background in electronic process sensors, digital controllers, touchscreen displays, pumps, valves, heat exchangers, steam turbines and reactors to improve the functionality of nuclear power plants. You will:

  • Assist in the preparation of engineering calculations, specifications, and designs.

  • Work on a variety of tasks associated with project reporting, such as tracking and evaluating project activities, project progress, and associated data

This role offers a hybrid work arrangement, with the expectation of spending three days a week in the office, giving you the flexibility to work remotely for two days.

  • Qualifications

Essential skills and experience:

  • A Bachelor’s or Master’s of Science degree in engineering with a strong academic background and coursework in analog and digital control systems, systems engineering, mechatronics, or robotics

  • Enrollment in an ABET Engineering Accreditation Commission-approved program is preferred

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Proficiency with MS Office applications

  • Must be bilingual in Spanish and English (read, speak, and write).

Valued but not required skills and experience:

  • Prior, related internship or co-op experience is preferred

  • Coursework and/or experience in mechatronics and/or robotics

  • An understanding of the practical application of electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and technology, including applying systems, principles, techniques, and procedures to a project design
